Whether you use ma, mon, or mes does not depend on your gender. It depends on the object of the sentence (whom you're talking about). If you're talking about a group of people, you use "mes" to express your own 'ownership', "tes" to express that the object belongs to the person to whom you're speaking, or "ses" to denote that the object belongs to someone (one single person) outside the conversation. If you only have one of the object, you use "mon" or "ma' depending on the gender of the object. So to say "my friends", you'd say "mes ami(e)s"; your friends: "tes ami(e)s"; his/her friends: "ses ami(e)s". Since "family" is a feminine word and you only have one, you'd say "ma famille". Hope this helps! |

Lindsey is right on target. Everything she said was right, but I just wanted to note that the first person to answer is using the word copain/-ine wrong.
copain is boyfriend, while copine is girlfriend. (relationship-wise)
amies is what we use for "friends".. therefore, its "mes amis" |
