What you have is fine. Either 'tonight' or 'in the evening' works.
Translation is never done word for word. When translating, put it into the same context as you would say it in the target language.
soir = evening and nuit = night
le = the (definite article for soir)
Even so, the transition between evening & night is rather vague in both languages. Still put in context of the sentence, your translation is fine.
I would have translated it as:
Julie is going to watch sports on TV tonight. |

No it says
Julie is going to watch sports on TV "at" night.
le soir = "night" or "at night"
as in: "le soir est beau" = "the night is beautiful"
"je sort le soir" = "I go out at night"
ce soir = tonight
as in: "se soir je vais au cinema" = "tonight I am going to the movies" |

Instead of "tonight", I would translate "soir" as "evening". Otherwise, I think you have it right. |

Soir does mean night, but the "le" in front of it makes it "tonight" |

it is
Julie is going to watch sports on the TV in the evening.
le = the

My understanding is that it is more like "Julie is going to watch sports on the TV evenings," meaning that it is her regular routine.
ce soir is tonight. |

le soir makes that evening (or night) unique, meaning that Julie is going to watch the sports that evening.
Soir by itself means evening (night), but with le it turns to this evening |

Most of them have it right but because of the "du" and "le" it makes it more general like something she does all the time because the le infront of soir makes it every and du is some, so some sports. So really its letting you know what she is going to do and that it is routine. But other then that its right. |
