The famous French aversion to soap comes from a misunderstanding. They buy as much soap as their neighbours but half of it is unperfumed soap which the studies keep putting in the 'non human use' category, ie for clothes, cars, but not for people while the French obstinately keep using it for people. So the result of the study is... French take as many showers as their neighbours but buy only half the amount of human use (ie perfumed) soap. Translated into media titles it becomes French don't wash (source : The Economist)

French and Canadians are close neighbours. There's only 50 kilometres separating French land (St Pierre et Miquelon) from Canada

what kind of facts?
I could tell you a lot of facts, but just say me what you expect...

I don't know what kind of facts you're looking for, but here are just a very few involving legends and/or interesting people:

Bretagne (or Brittany in English), in France is one of the original celtic nations. There are many menhirs (megalithic standing stones) and dolmens located throughout the region, especially in and around Carnac where there are over 3,000 concentrated in parallel lines over several kilometers.

Broceliande is also located in Bretagne, it is the legendary forest which contains the tomb of the wizard Merlin.

Queen Eleanor (Alienor) of Aquitaine (a region in current day France) was first the Queen of France, and later the Queen of England in the 12th centuary. She was the mother of Richard the Lionhearted (or King Richard of Robinhood fame).

Of course there are many more interesting facts out there on a variety of subjects, let us know if you have a specific topic you'd like to address.
