Going to France?

I'm going to France this summer.I'll stay in a French family and I have to buy something for them.A present to all of them.I don't know anything about the family yet.So what can you suggest me to give them?Do French people like arts books?should I buy national drinks of my country? And can you tell me what I shouldn't give them? what present might be impolite or misunderstood?

I'm doing the same thing! it's so difficult to come up with things! I do know the teenage boy that I'm staying with though, so that helps a little. When he was here he had Oreos and Jello for the first time and loved them! So I'll definitely be bringing some of those, that would be a cool thing for you to bring the family to try. I also came up with some American magazines, because I know I myself want to get French ones when I'm there, to read in another language and see whats popular. I bought some typical Seventeen/Cosmogirl ones for their teenage daughter and a Sports Illustrated for Kids and Nickelodeon magazine for their little boy.
I've browsed around a lot of these similar questions too, and most people seem to recommend a local food/product from the region you live in, gear for a local sports team, etc. (I'm bringing a Yankee Candle for the mother, it's kind of a New England thing). It's hard to bring things like wine or candy, because the stuff the French can get is way better than anything we have here (assuming that you're from America), but they still may be interested in trying it to compare.
Hope this helps! Have a great time in France!

Most French love to cook so maybe some cool gadget from Williams-Sonoma or an American cookbook. If they have children, the French love Gap, Ralph Lauren, Limited Too, or any of the big American names.
I wouldn't take perfume as it's a very personal thing but I'm sure they will appreciate anything you take.

You should take something from your town or country.
I took a picture book of my city once. Another time I took coffee mugs with a view of my city.

American architecture books ( for me this would be great ....)
Great books / beautiful regions, national parks, San Francisco or New Orleans ( french love both )
Children books for children
legend US cars for teen boys
Legend glamour actresses for teen girls
etc etc

i don`t think you should give 'em an art book because it`s stereotype, i find because we all think that france people sit on the side of the street and paint. You should probably give them something from your country or something....

You can offer tee-shirts with the name of your city for the children and mugs to the parents. You can also bring some local food; French people are keen in trying new food.
Any present will fit as it is considered as very polite to offer something when coming to someone's.

I am going to france with a group called people to people this summer and we are staying with a french family, as gifts we are all buying a little souvineer from where we live, like a key chain or a tee shirt.
