I suggest just bringing your ATM/Debit card. ATMs are more than plentiful and you get the best exchange rate that way. I would suggest having your "emergency" money in cash and/or travellers cheques, but it is more economical and easier to handle with your ATM card. To avoid too many service charge fees, take out large sums of euros and have that as your spending cash for a few days at a time (or a days worth, depending on your budget). I travelled all over France using this method with my Wachovia Visa check card. Just make sure you tell your bank you will be using it overseas!
I also wouldn't suggest a credit card. Using your ATM card or another kind of pre-paid travel card (Visa has one, the link is below), will keep you from spending too much! Hope this helps! |

You'll get a best exchange rate if you use a credit card.
Cash is second best option.....you can exhange currency at airport or at your hotel (hotel or bank has best rates).
If you do traveller's check...its harder to cash...and if you cash at American Express...they charge fee so you end up getting less Euro for your money.
I love Paris......have a great time!!!! |

On my last trip I ordered some Euros ahead of time from Bank of America. You can do it through AAA too. After a survey of French banks and exchange services, I think this got a better rate than exchanging cash or TCs upon arrival. You can do ATM too. |

After living recently in Paris for several years, you will find that the french mainly pay by credit card, this can be for a cup of coffee, road toll in fact anything. Alternatively cash would be better, have u thought of the new cash card for travellers? Money can be taken out of most auto teller machines, cheaper and can be topped up by ringing toll free no in Aus. |

It is best if you bring Euros in cash, but if not at least bring cash USD instead of travellers cheque. You can exchange them almost anywhere in Paris. Be careful with the exchange rates.
Another clever way would be to use your credit card. But make sure that your credit card is open to international use. This can be checked with your bank.
And finally, enjoy Paris, it is a great place! |
