if you want to go to the eiffel tower or the Louvre museum i would suggest you plan on the trip to each to last an entire day.

1. Ile de la CitÃ©, Notre-Dame, Latin Quarter, and Sainte-Chapelle... this can all be done in one morning or day. Sainte Chapelle is a must... do not miss this beautifully stained glass Cathedral!!!
2. Louvre (Grand Gallery), this is the highlight of the Louvre, this can be done in an afternoon.
3. Take a Seine River boat cruise, you can catch these in front of the Eiffel Tower, you can eat dinner on the boat, or just get a great tour.
4. Follow the Champs-de-Elysses and visit the Arch-de Triumphe ... Start at the Arch, and walk downhill to the Place de Concorde, and the Jardines de-Tuilleries
5. Visit the Musee de Orsay, and tour the impressionism works of Manet, Renoir, Monet, and other greats!
6. Visit Versailles
7. The Rodin Museum has the famous "Thinker"
8. Eiffel Tower enjoy the TrocadÃ©ro scene-- (across the river from the tower) the best view of the Eiffel Tower... A must!!!! Take an evening ride up the Eiffel Tower, the second level gives the best view.
9. Montmatre... Sit on the steps in front of Sacre Couer Basillica and soak in the INCREDIBLE VIEW. Tour the Sacre Couer during the day, you have access to the roof top. Have a meal in the Place de Tetre or any other fabulous cafe.
10. Opera Garnier.. See where the Phantom of the Opera originally resides... great architecture. Worth the price!
11. Rooftop view at Galleries Lafayette department store
12. Napoleans tomb is a great site to visit
13. Visit the JAQUESMART ANDRES museum to see a fabulous 19th Century estate with original Rembrants on the wall. This is my wife's favorite!!!
14. Visit Carnavalet Museum, place des Vosges or on rue des Rosiers, the Pompidou Center, Picasso Museum, and the Jewish Art and History Museum.
15. Of course don't forget about Notre Dame Cathedral
16. View the Hotel-de-Ville
17. Take an illuminations bus ride tour!!
18. Latin Quarter is very romantic in the evening.. go there once for dinner.
19. Pierre LaChaise Cemetary has some famous tombs with tombstones: Jim Morrison, Chopin. Statues of famous people ornate the top of most graves. Worth seeing if you have the time.
Tips:
- Buy a museum pass.
- Take the bus
- Favorite sites were: St. Chapelle, Montmatre Steps in front of Sacre Couer Basillica, Latin Quarter, Jaquesmart Andre Museum, Opera Garnier, The Eiffel Tower TrocadÃ©ro scene (across the river), Arc de Triumphe
- Negative for me was Versailles There wasn't much air conditioning and it wasn't kept up nicely in July 06. There was also construction in the hall of mirrors, didn't get the full appeal... Probably better in the cooler months. The gardens are incredible, and worth the visit!
- Great side trips outside of Paris would be Normandy, Mt. St. Michel, and the Loire Valley Castles.

Tour Eiffel, Notre Dame, Montmartre, Sacre Coeur, Champs Elysses, Quartier Latin, Louvre (free entry on first Sunday of the month), Invalides, Musee d'Orsay.... and on the second day.... ;)
or, just buy a Metro pass for the time you will be there and hop on and off at will... there will be something worth seeing (and definitely somewhere to eat good food...) almost anywhere you get off!

Centre Pompidou is great if you like art, the Eiffeltower is amazing and Les Galaries Lafayette are superb for shopping but whatever you do, you must try the Sandwich Americaine, available almost everywhere but try the little sandwich shops in Monmartre....
I know it's not exactly haute cuisine, but if you get hungry from all the sightseeing.... Happy memories :-)

Some quichk great tips from a former parisian :

- there a nice warm small flowerist near Notre Dame's Cathedral about 300m, direction North : it is agreable, warm and there are some exotic plants.

- visit museums the first sunday of the month, it is free

- use the lateral entrance of Le Louvre, south aisle, there's much much less queue

- don't buy the ParisVisite transportation card, the Carte Orange Hebdomadaire is cheaper

- avoid Eiffel Tower after 10am

- try cafÃ©-croissants in small pubs, it's sooo good and cheap

- on the Champs ElysÃ©es, get a sandwich at Monoprix, there are the cheapest of all Paris.

- beautiful view from the SacrÃ© Coeur

- Cimetiere du pere lachaise is interesting and many famous people are buried there : get a map of the cimetary.

- if you like gardens, try the Buttes Chaumont, east of Paris

- if you like modern architecture and skyscrapers, go to La DÃ©fense-Grande Arche, west of Arc de Triomphe on the RER-B red line (be careful, different tarif for tickets !)

@Gen S : item 11, rooftop is now closed unfortunately, it was a must in the past... but you can still go to the restaurant on the terrace.

use the metro see the louvre the eifle tower the whole city is just wonderfu; for its architecture wear comfy shoes(lots of walking and steps to climb) and have an umbrella just in case.oh and be sure to sample the crepes they sell on the street they are delicious and very filling if you get peckish.

In February, the weather is usually awful (although with global warming, who knows). Go to Montparnasse and get the lift to the top of Montparnasse tower (there's a charge). From there. you can see the whole of Paris, and stay dry and warm.

erm yeah, the Eiffel tower! ( the view from the top is AMAZING, Paris looks so symmetrical)
Also Notra dame is pretty good
There is also a great park/garden full of statues, i cant remember its name but that's pretty good too.
River Seine cruise,
I never went inside the Louvre but it looked pretty amazing from outside.
I found the Champs Elysee's over rated but my visit was very hurried.

If this is your first time in Paris I would recommend the green Open Tour buses. It cost 28euro but I will stop at every major attractions. You are free to hop on and off as you please.

Break in a pair of good walking shoes before you go. Don't choose athletic shoes unless you want to look like an American on vacation. Sunset from the top of the Georges Pompidou museum is beautiful (if you ever see the sun in February). Figure out the Metro system and use it. It's incredibly efficient.

my tip is to visit le chÃ¢teau de Versailles, and you have to pay for the guided visit which is called "Marie-Antoinette room" or something like that. This will allow you to see the wonderful THEATRE as it is breath- taking! don't miss it you won't be disappointed
