Going to visit Nice and Cote d'Azur in end of December. What ski resorts would you recommend? How far away

from the city is it? How much does a ski pass for a day cost? Where should I eat while skiing - on the slopes or in the village? What to eat and drink - any good recommendations from good French friends?

There are 3 good ski resorts close to Nice :

- Isola 2000
- Auron
- Limone-Piemonte (Italy)

There are all about 60 miles away from Nice, so you need about 1 hour 15 to get up there. Each resort is different (slopes, landscapes, ...).

The ski pass is about 25€ a day for all resorts.

You can get there by taking a shuttle if you don't have a car.

there is Auron, which is an hour, Isola 2000 which is an hour and 30 min and limone in Itlay
there is bus going from nice to those place for a ski day (15 euro return) really easy to go there, I would recommend Isola 2000 bigger and higher !

I agree with Brice

My favorites will be
1/Limone (Italy)
2/ Isola
3/ Auron

There are others as well, but less good. However don't forget you are in the pre-Alps, which mean the slopes won't be as good as a higher ski resorts. In Limone there is a very nice restaurant, and not too expensive, on the slopes.

Ski resorts are considerably far away from Nice. I don't think it's worth a day trip. You should rather try to stay for a night or two in order to enjoy the wonderful French Alps and the magnificent snow conditions.

As there is a really big choice of ski resorts, I'd recommend you to have a look onto France's official "ski website" (see link). I think choosing there "Alpes du Sud" or "Isère" is the best choice, as these regions are nearest to Côte d'Azur. I love going snowboarding around Grenoble (-Isère). You'll find a lot of links to several ski resorts when you choose the region in the search screen in the centre of the homepage. (see link) Or why not have a look onto Italian ski resorts? I'll add a link for more information.

For going out in Nice and the region and for other cool tips, you should go to The Guardian newspaper's special travel homepage "been there". (see link) That website helped me a lot when traveling throughout Europe.

I hope I could help you a bit and I wish you a wonderful stay and great snow!

I'm sorry, I forgot to answer the rest of the question.
I prefer to eat in the village, as it usually is not so expensive as on the slopes (I'm a very poor German student...), but I also think, that meals in restaurants down in the valley are better than on the slopes. après-ski is great on the slopes, but only for partying French, which try to get drunk as fast as possible with vin chaud (I don't know how you call it in English: hot whine?!) Can be fun sometimes, sometimes it's just annoying.
I like most fondue, which is really good in the region (Switzerland is not far away) but they have great and delicious stews, too. Very good, when you're cold after a long day skiing! ;)
