Good Paris walking shoes?

I've worn converses to trudge around the city, but since they don't have good arch support, they hurt my feet at the end of the day

You are absolutely right to think about what shoes you need for travel. The problem is that people today have been deceived by advertising.

"Walking shoes" you need are not light weight shoes with canvas or fabric tops which are primarily, at least in theory, for exercise. Many so called walkers are

What is called for are sturdy shoes with leather tops that are either treated for water resistance to begin with or that you treat yourself by rubbing down with oil and have rock solid arch support.

ECCO and Rockport are two companies that make proper walking shoes.

Good question, I'm looking into that too, and I want to wear with sundresses so I have no idea what kind of shoe I'll be wearing when I go to Paris in June. There are inserts you can buy that are slim to fit into casual shoes such as converse or vans, whatever you want. I've had good experience with the brand powerstep for my running shoes, so I'll send you the link to that. Happy trails! :]

all things considered, in Paris, the first must be "allure".
What will you be wearing? will you look like a tourist? or will you like a normal human being :)
Tennis shoes really set you out from the crowd (though your crowd may be tourists anyway so...). So do hiking shoes (though they are ultimately the best - Merrell is a great brand).
So you may want to look at Geox, Clarks, or nubuk leather Nikes/Adidas/whatever that look like normal city-strollers.

any good tennis shoes, but make sure to break them in before you go. i wore a brand new pair of vans there and i got the worst blisters ever. :/

Pumas are the best! They have good arch support- I wore mine to Paris, no problems at all. Plus, to Paris standards, they are kinda fashionnable. Yeah, converses are all the rage for the french teenagers, but very uncomfortable. I suggest Pumas.
