I got my apartment on www.parisattitude.com, apartment Reference # 1890. I lived in France for a few months, and everything was great when I got there. The lease was set up in a matter of days, and the owner met me when I got there. However, it's pretty expensive, and get ready to hand over a security deposit and never see it again. You will most likely be charged for things you never did. Also, the rental company didn't really care about helping me get my money back. Once you're in the rental, and they have their money, they're done with you.
I also worked with www.Parisstay.com and they have a lot of nice apartments, but found the apartment I liked best on ParisAttitude.
I hope you have better luck than I. When you get there, take pics of everything, and make sure you not only note what furniture the apartment is equipped with, but the condition of each item. The landlord charged me for a whole new toaster oven ($300) because it was "filthy and unusable" she said. I never even used the oven (it was too dirty when I got there and I don't really cook anyway). Also, the shower was so old the water started to come through the shower hose, and she charged me to fix that, too, even though it was wear and tear. Of course, I'm not going to fly back to france to fight her on it so I was out about $2000 after all was said and done, for a 4.5 month rental!
Lastly, if you need to set up phone and cable in your apartment like I did, you have to open a french bank account and will set up the phone most likely from ORANGE (their comcast). Be careful about adding the 7e/month unlimited long distance to the US, because they don't tell you that calling a cell phone costs about $5 a minute. I paid over $2000 in phone charges talking to my fiance and mom. They charged my bank, my bank let the charge go through, charged me insufficient funds fees, and ORANGE refused to reverse the charges even though I brought them a 6 page contract which in no part mentioned that cell phones don't count in the unlimited calls. When I asked him who would have known, he said, "everyone in france knows that cell phones are more expensive." So, if I were you, I'd skip the cable and phone, get a prepaid mobile phone, and have your family call you using tel3.
More info than you asked, I know, but I hope people can learn from my mistakes. |
