Right:
1) Eiffel Tower. metro Trocadero is the best metro stop. It's on the other side of the river but affords brilliant views of the Eiffel Tower. Ignore the street sellers and gypsies asking you "do you speak English?" (answer politely, "No I don't sorry").
2) If your girlfriend likes hot chocolate, there's Cafe Angelina on rue de Rivoli, metro Concorde or Tuileries, famous for its "chocolat africain".
3) There are plenty of art galleries and museums. There's the Musee d'Orsay (RER Musee d'Orsay, metro Assemblee Nationale I think), the Louvre (Metro Palais Royal-Musee du Louvre, there's an entrance from the metro stop), the Picasso Museum (Filles de Calvaire) etc., etc.
4) Go for a stroll. Start at Metro St Michel, walk to Notre Dame and then onto the other side of the river to the Hotel de Ville and down to the Louvre. Very pretty.
5) There are good views from the top of Galeries Lafayette, a very famous department store. Expensive but if your girlfriend likes looking without buying then that might be the place.
6) You could go to the Opera at Opera Garnier. Tickets can be very cheap if you book them well in advance. There are plenty of other theatres in Paris too.
7) Stroll around Montmartre. It's very picturesque, but full of tourists.
8) Walk down the Champs-Elysees, or just some of it as it's quite long.
9) Eat ice cream on Ile St-Louis.
10) Get a crepe at night when it's cold from a crepe stand.
11) Go to Versailles (RER A to Versailles Rive Gauche)
Hope that's enough to keep you occupied. |

Is this a independent tour, business, school?, the best advice I can give is to get familiar with the metro system, it's hot on the train, very crowded, but you can go across town in 12 minutes, each train has a map inside to help, the people speak english, but learn how to say thank you and please in french, cruise the river, eiffle tower, all the museums, arc d triumph,it's a wonderful city, easy to move around, it's a must see at night, the eiffle tower light's up, it's unreal, the food, the wine, and look at all the stockings the women wear, your girlfriend will freak out, dress warm, bring your umbrella, and bring plenty of euros, we never waited more than 5 min. for any train, getting lost was the best part, remember, TOURIST DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY'VE BEEN, AND TRAVELERS DON'T KNOW WHERE THEIR GOING, BE A TRAVELER. |

I'm sure everyone is going to give u the same advice.... and i'm sorry i dont feel like reading though those answers...
what i could recommend you... that i was very happy with was ...
a double decker hop on hop off bus that has 4 lines and goes around Paris stopping at major sites and stops... makes traveling around a little easier.... but then again the public transportation isn't complicated.... I just really enjoyed this and they give u ear phones you can plug in and as you go around you are given the history of the area

Paris is one of my favorite cities! The other answer was right on when he told you to visit the Eiffel tower at night. It's amazing during the day, but UNBELIEVABLE at night! Also, you have to get a crepe while you're there! The restaurants on the main streets can be very expensive. Try to get away from the main streets and find some cool restaurants that are cheaper. Also, if you like wine, La Vinia is amazing. It's a 2 story wine store that has every bottle you could imagine. You can pick out a bottle and then head upstairs where they will prepare it and serve it to you. You can order food as well. If your girlfriend likes Sex and the City, Kong is the restaurant where they filmed the series finale! It's a slightly more upscale restaurant, but very modern and fun. You'll need to make a reservation, but if she's a fan she'll LOVE it. The links to both are below! |

If you're on a budget, head towards the Latin Quarter or Chinatown (Place d'Italie) for affordable places to eat.
Some romantic things you can do:
1. Walk along the Seine at night.
2. Take a boat cruise on the Seine.
3. Have a picnic at Luxembourg garden. |

My biggest tip is to get the book by Rick Steves. You will not regret it. I use his books for all my European Travels and he has never led me astray because he publishes books that are updated yearly which is not what frommers or fodors does.
I survived Paris because of his book and his little suggestions and walks - it is so handy with subway plans and such.
Tips:
Get a pass for the subways that is like a freedom pass where you can use it all day for several days in a row because you will mess up. I have navigated London, New York, Italy and WADC subways and Paris' is at points ridiculous especially when you have to make a transfer so if you get one of those passes then if you accidently go in the wrong way, just exit the station and try again.
Get a museum pass - I bought mine at the Louvre (another Rick STeves tip). If you are in Paris for several days then it is worth the money and in fact you get into places cheper because it lets you into so many places and even gets you to the front of the line. You get into the Rodin, Picasso, Louvre, Versailles, Notre Dame, Sacre Couer, St. Sulpice, Orsay, Tuillerie, Napoleons Tomb, Archde Triomphe and so many more!!!
Lastly, get the Rick Steves book really really truly I swear by him! |

The best advice I can give you is to learn a few phrases in French. Everyone was SOOO nice to us and we wanted to show respect and they appreciated it, but then ended up helping us out and speaking english.
One of the girls we went with would ALWAYS say, "PARLEZ VOUS INGLES!?" instead of trying to speak french, and EVERYONE hated her and she said she hated France cuz everyone was rude!HaHa!
But if they see you are trying, they will be nice and helpful.
The rest of us had a great time and loved the people! |
