I was studying in Switzerland and didn't get my visa in time - neither did one of my friends. It's a different country but when he got to Switz. he just got his resident permit. I ended up getting an apartment in France so I didn't have a visa but my husband was French so I could've probably worked something out... anyway... the point is that I lived in France for 10 months without a visa. I crossed the border between France and Switzerland twice a day 5 days a week. They only ask for your id if you look suspicious. Since I was a student I looked just like other French students going to school in Geneva. However, it's important to remember that you will be taking a risk and the consequences could be high. I doubt they would look at the date you leave though. Just think about how you are portraying yourself and what borders you cross. In my opinion no one really cares.... but anyway before you leave I would definately exhaust all possible options trying to expedite the visa process (i.e. contacting your congressman and explaining your situation) goodluck.

Hi. If you get caught you will most likely be deported. If it were me I'd just change the return date. If you get deported it's not just France, but from the whole European Union - Germany, Netherlands and the bunch. When you go out they check your entry date normally by swiping the bar code on your passport. If they notice you overstayed your visit they may decide not to let you in for a while. Hope this helps.

You're hosed... if you stay longer and get caught they might not ever allow you back in again.

Most likely you will get deported and sent back to the usa and there be some legal problems as well.

I do not know the purpose of your visit. But, if you have a legitimate reason for this I would contact my congressman and ask for assistance. This is usually the best resource - as they are your direct government representative, and know who to contact and get things done. Good luck!

If you're going as a student, get the proper visa. They might expedite your application if you give a legitimate reason. If you're going as a tourist and plan to stay longer than permitted, you're taking a chance. Immigration issues are tougher these days. You could get caught and deported or you could get lucky and sneak by them. Your question is what would happen on your way out. Probably nothing if you don't get caught before that time. But, do the right thing if you can. You'll be better off.
