Yes, I have been to Paris many times. Although a bit on the dirty side, I found it to be a very intriguing and exciting city. The french have a reputation of not being too friendly, but I found that so long as you at least make an attempt to speak french, they can be quite friendly. Anyone who has ever bought a baguette (bread) and some frommage (cheese) and sat along the Seine on a sunny day with someone special by their side knows just how special Paris can be. And, as much, if not more that many other cities, Paris has the shops and the sights. The eiffel tower, champs elysee, Place d'etoile (arc of triumph) and Notre Dame are all not to be missed. And of course the Louvre museum has the Mona Lisa in it.
Finally, anyone can have a bad time no matter where they go. Any vacation is what you make of it. Bad weather and bad experiences can take the fun out of any vacation, but I have been to Paris enough times to know that it can also be a lot of fun. |

I'm sorry your trip was unpleasant. My four trips there have been wonderful. Any large city is going to be crowded and dirty. You have to be able to get past that. It sounds as if you went on the trip with unrealistic expectations, maybe you didn't do enough research before leaving.
On your next trip, wherever it might be, make sure you research your destination and have reasonable expectations. Be flexible, and enjoy the opportunity to visit and learn about another culture. |

Depends on where you go though. The touristy places are clean and friendly but beyond that, it might be a little dirty. I was at Sacre Coeur and we were shocked by how ghetto it was. It wasn't like people have guns with them but it's just that I felt uncomfortable walking around there with my cheque book and passport. But it is undeniably beautiful at night in the city of love. |

No; I have not been to Paris, but your word picture reminds me of how much we mimic the clutter of the landscape in our own personal environments, and why the tourist route is the cleanest path through the dirt. It's kind of a funny picture but so real. At least a path was made, what a nice path for the inspectors eye. |

I went in July. There were way too many tourists so the tourist sites were overcrowded. The metro (subway) smelled like urine. But, I still really like the city. I won't ever go back in the summer though. |

Sorry to hear about your bad experience in that beautiful country, all of France, including Paris was a very clean country before they start harboring immigrants from third world countries, like from Algeria, Turks, Moroccans, and others from Africa, Paris, still have very nice places to visit if you can afford it. |
