Your grammar is poor - and your propaganda is false -

there were algerian FLN and non FLN victims but they have not been "massacred" in the conditions that you describe -
and don't choose the US site to sell your peanuts - because precisely americans at that time backstabbed us on the international level, in agreement with ussr in order to sponsor arabs and take the control of Mediterranea through Algeria - just what they still do everywhere - but at the end Algeria went under control of the soviets after 1962 - that they do not teach you in Algiers - what about your daily massacres of berberes today ? with your (very) special forces.

Of course it's very known!!! Surely the worst thing happened in France since WW2.

Merci.

Yes, I've heard of it. France has some ugly chapters in its history. Newsflash: *EVERY* country has some ugly chapters in its history. As a matter of fact, when one looks at history objectively, the vast majority of it is rather ugly. This is supposed to be reserved for questions about travel to France, by the way, not pseudo-political questions based on selective indignation. Have you heard of the Islamic Salvation Front and the Islamic Salvation Army's campaign of violence? Get a life.

And?
have you heard of vietnam where thousands of civilians were killed by the US army, etc.....
what is your point?

Actually the number is more like 70 with estimates ranging from 50 - 200.

And the context is important as at this time Algerian terrorists had been murdering French civilians, including women and children, along with thousands of their fellow Algerians.
