If you have time, take the train from Paris to St Malo. Spend a night or two there. It is a most fabulous, historic, wonderful beach resort. Hotels are very reasonable. While staying there, take a day trip to Mont St Michel. That too is an amazing place, but you can really see it in a few hours.
I have been twice, the first off season when it was very quiet. The second was in August, when we had to join a queue to get in the main gate. Once inside everything was fine. We also got to walk around the island on the beach as the tide was out. I read after that there are areas of quicksand, but we lived to tell the tale! Definately visit, it is a marvellous place. Look past all the tourist trappings and enjoy.
p.s. I have lost count of our visits to St Malo, we have enjoyed every one from high summer to mid winter. So far it is my favourite beach in the world!! |

You'd take a train from Saint-Lazare station in Paris to the town of Pontorson. After that, it's a short bus ride (9 km, which is roughly 5 or 6 miles) to Mont Saint-Michel. Whatever you do, *DO NOT* take a "Paris Vision" bus. I made that mistake once- never again. We wound up spending far more time in the bus than actually visiting, and the whole thing was extremely badly organized.

www.ter-sncf.fr can give you train times. You type in your departure railway station and your destination railway station, the date of departure and the time you want to depart or the time you want to arrive. Unfortunately, this site is in French though!
It would probably be better to spend more time in Paris as there is so much to see. But if you don't want to stay in the hustle and bustle for too long, spend most of your time in Mont St. Michel. Paris is an incredibly hectic place, you will find and I know that more than a couple of days there would drive me nuts! |

i agree with cuisiner f, the best way to reach mont-st-michel is by train: in fact in france there are the TGV (high-speed trains) that are very fast and comfortable. enjoy your holiday!greetings from italy
