yes it means 'my friend' in french- more specifically a male friend, because 'amie' is the feminine form and this form is masculine.

although(they really don't use it much(they use,somthin'else,like(mon potte(male)or elle est ma potte(female friend)

you can be sure, it's really french. It just means "my friend"
it would "mon ami" for a male, and "mon amie" for a female
