Help about travel from England to Lyon France... please answer!?
Hi
Basically I am studying in Lyon for a semester but leaving my gorgeous boyfriend behind in Liverpool :(:(
He doesn't have a good sense of direction and speaks no French but I explained to him the cheapest way to fly in is to fly to Paris CDG and get the train down to Lyon but he is really worried about this.
We tried Liverpool to Grenoble with Ryan air but there is literally NO availability!?
What would you suggest? We are both students so money is an issue.. trains seem the most expensive of all aswell!!
Thanks for any answers .. we are so stressed about this!
Have you looked into flying directly to Lyon? British Midland has direct flights between Manchester and Lyon. Shouldn't be too hard for him to find his way to the Manchester airport from Liverpool.
Then there are shuttle buses between the Lyon airport and the city center: http://www.satobus.com/welcome.html
I don't know what the cheapest site is to book from the UK but Lyon has an international airport so it's worth checking.
If it's cheaper to fly to Paris and then take the train, tell him he has no reason to worry. He could take an Air France bus directly from CDG to Gare de Lyon (line 4). Everything is in English at the airport and at Gare de Lyon the signs are bilingual too as far as I remember. If not, people speak English at the information and ticket booths. There is no way he could get lost.

LOL
Ryanair goes to grenoble then you can catch a train between grenoble and lyon or buses

I think it is your best bet or
the eurostar to lille (change there is easier ) or paris then tgv to lyon

Easyjet do cheap flights there.

Try travelling with Easyjet from Liverpool to Paris CDG airport. Then you have a TGV station in the airport with direct trains to Lyon.
Added bonus is that he will not leave the airport, where most attendants speak English.

I travelled alone from Lyon to London by coach with eurolines 7 years ago, check their website
