Help me get a bike in Aix-en-Provence? |
I'll be studying for a semester in Aix, and I cannot stand the idea of being bike-less, but I can't afford to ship Esperanza (my bike) to come stay with me. Can anyone refer me to a reasonably-priced honest bike shop, preferably a local one and not a chain? It would be excellent if it were a shop that also buys old bicycles so I can sell it back at the end of my stay. Additional Details I looked at V'Hello, but it seemed like it was short-term and a bit pricey... But thanks, I'll keep it in mind! |

Once there you should try and find these sport stores :
Decathlon or Go Sport.
You could also try small adds you might find your next bike there ;) |

Why don't you try the V'hello? It's a new renting system. You don't have to buy, but just pick up your bike and leave it at specific stations all over the city.

I don't know Aix well enough to be familiar with local stores but go to the Yellow Pages and enter Cycles, vélos next to Quoi? Qui? and of course Aix en Provence next to Où? http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/trouverlesprofessionnels/index.do
Then check "vélos, cycles (commerces, réparations) for smaller, local stores or "magasins de sports" for general sports stores.
You should also go to the local Carrefour, a hypermarket chain. They sell everything, including bikes, and are usually much cheaper.
You could also look at ads for used bikes instead of buying a new one. http://www.google.fr/search?source=ig&hl=fr&rlz=&=&q=petites+annonces+aix+en+provence&btnG=Recherche+Google&meta=lr%3D&aq=f
I don't think "reasonably-priced" is part of the local vocabulary. Aix is a great little city but it's the French 90210. Anyway, good luck and I hope Esperanza won't be jealous! |
