Where exactly is the location of your B&B? Is it in zone 1, or is it still within zone 1-2, or are you going beyond that? Afterall, e.g. from Charles de Gaulle-Etoile, taking the RER A, you can be in zone 3 (Nanterre University) in just about 10 minutes. So 20 mins train ride is not very informative in telling us where the B&B may be, in terms of travelling zone.
If you are within zone 1-2 between the B&B and places that you're planning to visit, then I echo Rilifane's advice to get 1-Day Mobilis tickets to travel. At €5.80 per day (http://www.ratp.info/informer/forfait1j.php ), 3 days would come to a total of €17.40.
However, if your B&B is in zone 3, 1-Day Mobilis will now cost €7.70 per day to which 3 days will total to €23.10. It's definitely better value at this stage to get a 3-days zone 1-3 Paris Visite pass. This pass, as pointed out, is €19.60 (http://www.ratp.info/touristes/index.php?langue=en&rub=decouvrir&cat=paris-visite&page=tarifs ).
Even if you're in zone 1-2, the difference in Paris Visite and 3 Mobilis tickets is only €2.20. Paris Visite offers some discounts and deals with partner operators, so why not have a look at the page that lists the deals (http://www.ratp.info/touristes/index.php?langue=en&rub=decouvrir&cat=paris-visite&page=avantages ) and see if there's anything there of interest for you that you can take advantage of, and be worth the €2.20 difference. If it's worth it, then why not just buy a Paris Visite?
Now, having said all these, if your B&B and all the destinations you plan to visit are in zone 1, you may want to consider buying single tickets. Buy them in bulk - carnet of 10 is sold for €11.40. Afterall, in zone 1, a 1-Day Mobilis only makes sense in term of value if you're travelling at least 5 journeys per day, if not more. If you're only doing 3-4 journeys per day, 10 tickets may be enough for the 3 days. At most, buy 2 extra loose tickets (€1.60 each) if you find yourself making on average 4 journeys per day, and the total cost will come to €14.60 for the 3 days.
For destinations in zone 1, if you plan your visit well, you can quite easily cluster many of the places together, and walk from one to another. I find central Paris very walkable, and I've often walk from Eiffel Tower quarter all the way to Ile de la Cite and thereabouts. Same goes, from Arc de Triomphe to Louvre to Pompidou. If you cluster places and walk, you may find yourself needing even less transport tickets. (Then again, this may be just me - I love walking and enjoy the city atmosphere than stuck underground in the metro)
Well so now you have all the options. Balance between convenience and costs, and choose the option that suits you and your budget best. Have fun in Paris! |

Buy a Mobilis, a one day transit pass each day. A mobilis costs 5.80 euros for zones 1&2 (you can't buy one for just zone 1) so for three days the cost is 17.40 euros. A Parisvisite for 3 days will cost you 19.60 euros.
I am assuming that you are correct about the location of your hotel and that you are, indeed, going to be traveling only in Zone 1.
NB: You may wonder why you didn't see the Mobilis on the RATP website (assuming you looked at it). This is because it is only discussed on the French language version of the site. |

The previous answerer is 100 percent correct, but I just wanted to add something from personal experience....Be sure to specify the Mobilis and don't let them give you a Paris Visite. One morning I was in a hurry and asked for a pass for zones 1-3 and they gave me a Paris Visite. I was too rushed to say anything so I lost out.
Ticket counters can be extremely busy or understaffed, so you may want to try the automated ticket machine. Some of them have an english option, but if they don't it may be too hard to find the ticket that you need if you don't read french. If you are an American you won't be able to use your visa card because it doesn't have a microchip. That means you will have to have the exact change in coins to buy from the machine unless it is one of the extremely rare machines that accepts bills and gives change. |
