If you don't mind a longish drive the Ardeche is best. It is warm and sunny, great countryside and loads of things for kids and families, like canoeing, horseriding, biking etc.

I don't know if there's a cottage there and the other features you'd like but Lille, it's really right there as soon as you enter France through the Eurotunnel. I love the place.

You can also go to Disney World Paris, Park Asterix etc..
