Yes you can legally wear your hijab in a job that is not in the French administration or French public school system, no it is not well accepted except maybe in areas with a big Muslim population like the neighborhoods around Paris. France is aggressively secular, a hijab is aggressively religious. |

No offense! I know it is part of your religion, but you or your family decided to live in a country other than your own, so please accept our societies or please return to your home land.
No offense meant! But this is an ever increasing issue in the UK where refugee's are rude enough to demand that WE adapt to their ways. |

Not many places in Western World. They may allow you to wear it , but still people around you may dislike you, and by not being allowed to say anything they may make life quite uncomfortable. |

It's not illegal if you don't work in the public sector, but people (customers, co-workers...) won't be confortable with it.
Hence the difficulties your correspondent is having finding you a place to go.
The advice to go to an area where the muslim community is big is not good : the idea of the trip is not to get isolated...
I would have said, "go to London", but the one post coming from the UK looks like things have changed there.
The reason for our uneasyness with the hijab is twofold : (i) laïc country (ii) integration (or supposedly so), not community-based immigration policy. |

Sure! Driving school buses... Operating machinery... working in customer service... - surely, you understand that I jest.
It's hard to imagine any work that you can do in that thing. If you're that devout of a Muslim, then be a good Muslim woman and stay home and serve your man. If you want to work - well dress appropriate for work!!! |

Go to find a job in Marseille. You will feel quite at home. The Arabic population is high as in some area or arrondissements you hardly see a French person. There are travel agencies, retail companies, insurance companies owned and run by Muslims, I am sure they will employ you.If you stay within the circle of the Arabs, like going to marché au puce in the 15th arrondissement, moving about in Arabic area, going to Arabic cafés and restaurants, you don't even need to speak French. Speaking Arabic will do. |

You have the right to wear your headscarf to work in France, however it isnt well accepted. Maybe in areas like Paris or the south of France (like Marseille) will you be more lucky. It depends in which field you are as well ? Because some industries are more present in some areas than other.. |

Hiljad is not forbidden in France, it is just not allowed to wear it in states institutions (exactly like in Turkey). Of course you may have some difficulties to find a job a some compagnies may refuse you because of the jilbabd...but I'm working in a big compagny in Paris and my college is wearing a jilbabd...so as you can see it depend of where you work . |
