Honestly, are the French really terrible to Americans?

My friend and I are going to London for a few days, one of the optional offers of the vacation is a day trip to Paris, we are New Yorkers and I have heard nothing but terrible things about the French and their interactions with tourists, particularly Americans, is this true? Should we opt to not go to Paris for the day?

Parisians are not pleasant to EVERYONE - they are just too stressed and arrogant. So just enjoy the beauty of the city, its rich culture and ignore the "attitude". However, everywhere else in France, the French people are very nice and welcoming to all. The "Loire" area is fabulous with all its old castles. Have fun!

No they are not.

However, they do not suffer fools any better than other people and the plain fact is that Americans often act like fools when they visit Paris.

But there is actually a good reason for not taking this day trip if you'll be in London for only "a few days."

Both London and Paris are huge cities with ancient histories and a treasure trove of things to see and do.

A few days is hardly enough time to even begin to see London and a day trip run by some tour operator will not come close to doing justice to Paris (and is likely to be overpriced). Paris will still be there when you have the time to return and give her the attention she deserves.

The French have never been terrible towards Americans.

For some reason, Americans insist on believing this. It has no basis in fact. As far as I can tell, it's actually a projection of the hostility that some Americans actually feel towards the French—apparently some people like to start and maintain nasty rumors.

Honestly, the French are not terrible to American tourists. I lived in France for 2 years and have visited 3 times since 2007. Paris is one of the best cities in the world. I love France and I'm sure you will too.

Try to learn a few phrases in French. You will get an even better response if you try to speak a little french at least.

Last time I was there I asked a policeman a question in French and he answered in English! That surprised me.

Paris is not france; Paris is the capital of france.
Parisiens are stressed.

Sorry for my english ^^

You know, there are bad people everywhere... I was in New York two years ago and I could see an poster which said: "Prohibits to french people" on a door of bar...
In Paris, the parisians are stressed but the city is very fantastic!
