Hotel suggestions in France? |
I'm driving to France and staying in La Rochelle and Bordeau.
Any suggestions for nice but inexpensive hotels? I'd like something a bit different to a travel lodge or Ibis. Maybe a bed and breakfast or something more quaint and personal.

You are in for a fantastic holiday. We did the same recently, and will be going back to Bordeaux again this year. Bordeaux is not car friendly, you may run into problems there with access and parking.
We can recommend Quality Hôtel Sainte Catherine, 27, rue du Parlement Sainte Catherine.
It is in the centre, atmospheric and about 95E a room. Very comfy.
When we stayed in La Rochelle, we used Comfort Hotel Saint Nicolas,
13 rue Sardinerie, La Rochelle
This is about 80E, again very well situated.

Maybe see you in Bordeaux!! We are trying Arcachon this year too.

If it hasn^t be inside Bordeaux I know a great little hotel not far away.
Good price, very good food and the owner speaks English( you don^t find it so often in france in small not expensive hotels)

Go to the logis de france website to find many country small hotels, often just a couple of miles off the main roads. Otherwise Formule 1 hotels are the cheapest travelodge type hotels but usually on an industrial estate |

Get the AA Book called Bed and Breakfast in France. B & B's in France (called Chambres d'Hotes) are of a very high standard. We (my wife and I) have stayed in many and have never been disappointed. |

It's family run, and overlooks Luxembourg Gardens. I paid 53 euros a night for a room with a double bed, private shower, and balcony. There is free breakfast, parking available, and an elevator. The furniture and flooring is beautiful wood, and the shower in my room looked brand new. The owner is extremely nice, and speaks decent English. He let me stay for free on an extra mattress in the laundry room when I showed up a night early on accident.
I would definitely recommend this hotel, and I will absolutely stay there again when I go back to Paris. |
