if you want to mix visits and beach . the city near the beach i prefer is "Courseulles sur mer" . hotel restaurant "la crémaillère" avec vue sur la mer . it's quite near Arromanches .
hope you will enjoy your stay . if you prefer economic hotels you can find one or two close to memorial . "Villages hotel" saint-contest for example . |

Why stay in a hotel?
For the same price, you will find better service in a chambre d'hôtes (bed & breakfast) or rental (gîte rural) |

You already received great answers, but I'll throw out a couple more options to consider.
The little town of Honfleur on the south side of the mouth of the Seine is beautiful. Overlooking the main square is the Hotel Dauphine. We really enjoyed our stay there and the old harbor, just a two minute (max) walk away. Honfler isn't really a good base if you're in Normandy strictly for D-Day sites (it's a ways north), but I would recommend at least stopping there.
At the very south end of Normandy is Mont St. Michel. We spent one night at Auberge St. Pierre. From our room we could see the illuminated cathedral crowning the island. In the evening we took a tour of the cathedral - there were not many people (unlike in the afternoon when we arrived) - and it was fantastic. This is truly one of the places that one must see to believe.
Honfleur is to the north of the D-Day beaches and Mont St Michel to the south. If you're looking for places to stay arriving in Normandy, or departing Normandy, I recommend both.
Have a great trip! |

Best to base your visit out of Bayeux -- it's the closest town with hotels and restaurants to the Normandy sites.
http://www.resideo.com/fr/bayeux/ -- click "Check Availability", choose your dates & book your room online. There are 2 Best Westerns there.
Have fun! |

I suggest that you contact The French National Tourist Office in New York City, New York. That's your best bet for for accurate information. |
