How Close is Strasbourg to the German Border?

How close is Strasbourg to the German border? A friend and I are going to be there in June and want to try to cross the border into Germany etc but we wont have a car or anything so Im curious if there is another way to go over the border without having to buy a Eurail pass just for a day trip or something or for the mere fact of saying we have been to Germany lol.

also, I heard about a concentration camp in France that was the only one in the nation and that it is near Strasbourg, about 40 kilometers. I was curious if anyone knew of a tourgroup that goes there cause i cant find anyway of getting to the place!

thanks so much for any help you guys can provide!

The German border is only about 4 km (about 2 miles). You could definitely walk. There's even a cute German village (Kehl)right on the border which will give you a real feel for Germany. When you cross the river (the Rhine), you basically head right. I'm sure there are buses also that you could take.

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with the nearby concentration camp.

Strasbourg is very close to the German border. You can see Germany from the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which is one of the reasons Strasbourg was chosen "to symbolise the growing unity between European countries" (you can tell I did the tourist tour, can't you?).
