why don't you pay for a 1 year french language learning course in france. then you'll be living there too at the same time.

If you want to do both the same year, there are a couple options:
1. You can go as "fille au pair" or babysitter. There you should know a little bit of french before going, so you can talk to the family and kids.
2. You can search at www.ciep.fr for the assitant program.
Assistan program is: You go as an assistant english teacher to a public high school in France. You stay there for a year, you teach english through activities with the students (the main teacher takes care of the grammar) and you get paid 1,000 euros a month. You don't have to talk french to teach, but it is advised that you know a little to move around the city.
You can also take classes there, sometimes at the same highschool you can take the lessons of any subject of your interest.

Most local junior colleges will have a language course you can take. It's your best bet because you'll have an instructor and actual classtime as opposed to buying tapes and books. If you're going to college, most colleges will offer a semester abroad to study.
