How close are the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower to Gare du Nore? |
I'm going to Paris and I'm having trouble finding any information on how close things to do are! I'd like to visit the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower in particular and will be getting the RER train to Gare du Nore and probably staying close to here as I belive it is central in Paris? Correct me if I'm wrong and you're advice on where to stay and ideas of cheap ways to get around would be fantastic and much appreciated!! Additional Details Out of intrest also, could I get to Disney Land quite easily? Hehe that's the kid in me asking! |

The Louvre is about 3km from the Gare du Nord, and the Eiffel Tower is about 3.5km from the Louvre in the other direction. The map link posted above is incorrect as he has made a mistake with the landmark names.
All Paris attractions are easily reached using the Métro, which is fast and reliable. You can also use the Vélib' bike hire system, which has automated pick-up and drop-off points every 300m or so throughout Paris.
You can easily go do Disneyland on the RER line A.
Note that the area round Gare du Nord is cheap for hotels, but you get what you pay for - although the hotel will probably be clean etc, it's not a very nice area, particularly at night. |

If you use the metro absolutely everything is close. You can see all the sights including the eiffel tower, the arc de triomphe, sacre coeur, louvre, etc. Does not take long. Enjoy you will love it. I stayed in the Montmartre district Timhotel Montmarte. It is not that expensive, clean and very central and also a great area to stay in. Just use the Metro for eveything it will be enough. |

gare de nord is in the north of the city - the attractions you are talking are moer central/south but all within a pleasent walk along the champs leysee - get a metro ticket - one day or three day and the metro system is pretty simple if you are used to the London underground |

Gare De Nord is just out of the very centre of Paris but ok. There are plenty of hotels but I would book before you get there especially as it's getting towards Christmas.
For getting around have a look at www.seat61.com/paris-metro.
I would suggest that you get a one page street map as it's nice to wander around Paris.
The other way is by bike, they have a system in Paris whereby you can pick up and drop off bikes at sites all over Paris 25000 bikes it only cost a few euros, check it out when you are there.
Bon Voyage! |

The railway station you are referring to is called Gare du Nord [Nord mean north]. It is quite a way away from the Louvre [opposite bank - right bank, for a start] and the Eiffel Tower [left bank] however you are able to jump on a train easily there. I'm not sure about train stops in the city though, as we walked from our lodgings on the Left Bank near Notre Dame to those places and the walking was terrific, as you saw things you wouldn't see if you were underground on a train and it wasn't that far. The underground train system [Metro] is supposed to be very good though. Check with the station for tourist tickets [either daily or several days worth], as they are much cheaper than getting a ticket every time you get on a train.
Make sure you walk up the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe [it's on the right bank in the city and you can walk from the Louvre to it]. Wonderful and many things to see and do.
Best thing to do is go to google maps and put in Louvre Paris or whatever and you can see for yourself. |

I'd have to look on a map, but I'm pretty sure that the Eiffel Tower is some twenty or thirty blocks (that's around 2 - 3 miles) from the Louvre, which is not terribly far (about a half mile or so) from Notre Dame. They both would be about a mile from the Gare du Nord. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower is pretty far from the historic center of town...that much walking is a long distance for them...But by Metro, it is about ten minutes from Notre Dame (or the Gare) to the Eiffel Tower...add another ten for entrance and waiting for a train, and maybe another ten if you have to make a connecting train...half an hour...not that far. Now, you will have to wait in line for tickets, and...are you going in the winter? I'm not sure if it is all winter, or just when the weather happens to be bad, but you might not be able to go to the top...I couldn't, and I was there in December. I think they may close the top level off for the whole winter, for safety. You would have to find that out for sure on your own. |
