Paris is an expensive city but not as expensive as London or New York.

For shopping you should consider the flea markets or designer outlet malls.

FlyingSmile
not cheap at all but if you go to La Defense you will find a mall with a combination of the shop you find in Paris or go to Chatelet and around. There is some good shops there.

It is not cheap in Paris

Compared to Tokyo it is cheap, compared to most U.S. cities it tends to be more expensive. But that depends. Some items tend to have prices that have become "normalized" due to macro-economic factors. For example, McDonalds, will be not much more than you pay in the U.S. (even with the bad exchange rate). But many things will be about 50% more than what you are used to paying: Hotels, some restaurants, clothing, entertainment.

But there are cheap places to eat and shop! Go East! Unless you dislike Africans, Asians, Jews, or Arabs you can find some great prices in the restaurants, shops, and markets in the eastern areas of Paris (18th, 19th, 20th, 14th arrondissements). Hotels are very affordable there too.

For really cool gifts that are unique go to the markets! (food, antiques, clothing, anything) can be found for very very cheap prices.

Very expensive. THere really aren't any cheap stores although there was a store that ha similar prices to H&M on the Champs Elysees.

Like most Capital Cities VERY EXPENSIVE.

Monoprix usually has very good prices; however, I don't know about quality or fashionableness. You might also visit BHV.

it is very expensive. i went for valentines day and i was shocked at just how expensive it is.
my suggestion is not to eat out, instead get crepes cos they cost about2 euros and theyre nice enough. cos eating in a restaurant is very expensive. dont buy sandwhiches either, i bought a sandwich by the effle tower and it cost me 12euros!!!! i admit it was big and nice but still.

as for shopping, head for the sales, thats ur best bet, there are a lot of outragiously priced boutiques etc so steer clear of them if u wana save money. like anywhere else theres cheap shops as well. have a nice time!

As long as you avoid sit-down resturants and the bigger hotels, it will be moderately expensive but not extremely. However, don't buy ANYTHING within about 3 blocks of a major tourist attraction (like the Eiffel Tower or Notre Dame). The stuff there is generic, bad quality, and expensive, whether food or souveneirs.
