I remember hearing this as well. I believe it was something like if you took only 30 seconds to view each item and took no breaks it would take you over a year to see everything.
But that's just going from memory. I did a quick search because now I'm curious too, but I couldn't find it.

Princess
I visited the entire museum in an afternoon. It was awfully exhausting; I didn't enjoy it after the first hour. So, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It would take 2 days at least

There isn't any specific answer, it depends on what you're interested in and how much time you've got.

If you just want to check out the famous things (Mona Lisa, Nike of Samothrace and a few others) you can do it in a morning or an afternoon. But the collection is huge and you could easily spend weeks in there if you took one section at a time.

The longest I ever heard of is from a friend of mine in Paris who's had a season ticket for about 20 years and goes regularly for short visits to see specific things. They rotate the collection to some extent and run special exhibitions so there's always something new to see.

I'm sorry. I can't give you a 'right' answer. For myself, it would take a whole lot of time because I want to study everything I see from every angle while pondering the artifacts. I could spend years there and still not get through everything.

Tim
Most of the Louvre's approx. 35,000 artifacts are not on display at any one time. However, for a hypothetical answer, assume you could look at each for 5 minutes (pretty casual!) and your tour occupies 10 hours per day, 6 days per week, with no refreshment or bathroom breaks. Then it would take about 49 weeks, leaving you a 3-week vacation which you would undoubtedly need.

Malfoy f
it depends if u do it superficially or not...i would tell around 2-3 days without taking too much time.

Well I spent 2-days there and it was not long enough. The guidebooks say you need a week.

Trish
I dont see there being a RIGHT answer. People go at their own pace and spend more time on different pieces than others. I would guess weeks and weeks of full days! :)
