That is difficult to answer. It depends on how long your total holiday is. If it is a couple of weeks only, I would say that 3 is more than enough!
If you are staying for a month, even a whole week to be wordly and relax could be fine, but of course that really depends on what you like to do, if you like the beach this is a great place. The weather and water are beautiful there!
But if you are sightseeing in Europe, I would skip it altoghether and choose other cities, which are more important historically, etc...

Does it really matter? As long as you are comfortable in your surroundings....the French can be tough on Americans....
