You really don't need to know much since Paris is the capital city and majority of the people there speak english. But it's always good to know the basics like hi, hello, how are you, or something like that. Even if you can't speak well and try at least, the locals will love you.
Anyways, have a wonderful time in France. I absolutly loved Paris. It's beautiful :). |

While I agree that most people speak English, it's always appreciated to at least attempt to say a few words. The basics will do and don't forget to say " Bonjour " when entering a store. |

You know, if you're only going to be there for two days, all you really need is the polite phrases:
hello, goodbye, please, thank you, you're welcome.
How much? Where is? and aspirin are good phrases to know.
and be able to count to ten.
That, and a smile, and the brevity of your trip, ought to keep you from getting insulted too much! |

Let me give you a very unexpected tip - : have always in your pockets some paper and a pencil -
You cannot suspect how useful it can be - once I was in Czeckoslowakia - and could not find again my car - thought
it could have been taken away by the police for abusive parking ( in fact found it a little further ) - so how to ask locals if they saw the police with trawl-cars during the day - I drew a trawl-lorry, approached council employees and showed them the cars and my drawing + an interrogation mark - and THEY COULD UNDERSTAND - and told me only the police could know -
Paper and pencil are alos very useful if you have to bargain, know a price or departure-times - |

you need basic french. like hello = bonjour. please = s'il vous plait. but they will speak english if your like completely lost. if you forget to say things just say Parler Englais? and they should speak english. :) you can always pick up those french books that have the phrases in them and bring it with you.
it'll peg you as a tourist but that could benefit you. |

I took French 1 this past school year and I could probably live in France for 2 days.
Mostly we learned directions (asking&giving), how to order food, shopping and clothes of course haha, a lot of general type questions, numbers for money, etc. |

even if you spent a week talking to locals hardley anything would be acheived. Even with a photographic memory language is a hard thing to learn in a short period... it takes a long time of exposure to get the feel for the language. |

Half of the language would help |
