It's 1.40 euro per ticket. You can buy ten tickets at the same time which cost 10.70 euro, or you can buy a weekly ticket which cost around 10 euro, but they are only valid from Monday to sunday, or you can buy a monthly ticket, that's around 50 euro. Note that they can be used in buses too. |

Mamarucoco or whatever his name is had it pretty much right.
Your best bet will probably be to buy a carnet (pronounced "carnay") of 10 tickets. This is easy and will probably be the cheapest. The carnet is good for Paris city only. You will have to buy a separate ticket to go to other destinations outside the city (Versailles and airport).
The carte orange is a good deal if you are on the Metro a lot. If you are ready to deal with a little hassle, you can do that. You will have to buy the ticket, and ask for the card that goes with it. You will have to have a tiny picture of yourself. Some of the workers hassle you since it is supposed to be for people who live in Paris only, but most don't worry about it. Also, the carte orange is valid from Monday through Sunday (I think it starts Monday, could be Sunday). No credit if you start later in the week. Be sure to get the carte orange for Paris city only - Zones 1 and 2.
DO NOT buy the Paris Visite to save money. It is convenient because you just buy it and use it for the number of days you are there, but the cheapest one is for Zones 1-3. Nobody needs to go to Zone 3. Worse deal is Zones 1-5 which will take you to Versailles and the airport, but you pay way more than if you just buy individual tickets. |

Don't use europass, it's only valid in long distance trains.
You can purchase a carte orange (see above) but must know that it's only valid for people living in Paris.
Carte orange was initiated in 1975 as a means of travelling cheap in the Paris area, but it's a non profit ticket.
Meaning that it's paid by French taxes. So in order to use it, you need an id photo of yourself and you have to write down an address on the back. If your address is outside Paris area, you can be caught by the "controleurs".
Just put the address of your hotel or the place you're staying and you'll be fine (no pun intended).
The ticket for tourists is called "Paris Visite" and costs 26.65 euros for 5 days (Paris zone only, airports and Disneyland excluded)
The carte orange for seven days for same zone costs 15.70.
Enjoy your stay |

You can purchase a Euro pass that will allow you to travel anywhere in Europe. It's about 100 euro which is about $120 right now. It will be good for your 10 days as well. |

The Paris Metro costs €1.40 per ticket. A book of 10 tickets called “un carnet” costs €10.70. The unlimited weekly pass "Carte Orange" costs €15.70. There is a lot to know about the Metro if you've never been to Paris. You can read more about it at http://www.myparistrips.com/parismetromap.html |
