You certainly do NOT have to be 21 to be a dancer at the Moulin Rouge. There are quite a few Australian girls working at the moment in the current show (Féerie). I have seen the show and it's fantastic! The girl who dives into the tank with the snakes is an Aussie too!

Have you seen the series that was done by either the ABC or SBS on the Australian girls in this show? It was really good and invaluable if you are thinking about working there.

I don't really know how much they are paid, and the interviews with the girls seemed to show they weren't paid that much - but what is it worth to have that experience, and to say that you danced at the Moulin Rouge?

I might still have a copy of that series if you haven't seen it.

I suggest you contact Janet Pharaoh ( janet.pharaoh@moulinrouge.fr ) directly. She is the ballet mistress and in charge of auditions rather than relying on second hand information and guesses.

In case you don't realize it, they serve ALCOHOL at the Moulin Rouge and they won't even talk to you about AUDITIONING before you turn 21. The M.R. is a dinner theatre with a fixed price menu at dinner and a late show with just drinks and some munchies.

The dancers don't really make that much. When I lived in Paris, I lived on Rue Clairaut, which is just about 5 blocks from the Moulin Rouge and knew a number of the dancers and support personel at the M.R. At that time they were barely making minimum wage so today I would guess the dancers are making around $500 a week but not much more.
