How much should I save for a week's stay in Paris?

I'm looking for a middle-of-the-road estimate, based on a moderate place to stay, flights for two, and meals.

Any other advice you have is appreciated! Thanks!

Here is my "middle-of-the-road" estimate for 2: 1500 € ($2200). It is based on:

- 7 hotel nights at 100 €/night = 700 €
- meals for 2 at 45 €/day person = 630 €
- visits (7 paying entrance fees per person at 7 €) = 100 €
- métro + airport transfers (high estimate) : 65 €

Of course you could also do it on a budget and spend 900 € between the 2. Now if you want to spend 50 € more a night for a higher class hotel room or go to really fancy restaurants, that's fine, it's up to you. My estimates are based on simple but decent, clean hotels in central locations and on restaurants offering 3-course meals for 15 to 20 euros, which is standard, average price for a good meal (a packpacker on a budget would be able to eat out for 20 € a day). You can have really nice accomodation and meals for well under $3,000 (2,000 €) a week.

Since I don't know where you are flying from and what time of the year I cannot give an estimate on flight prices as it can range from $500 to $2500 per person from the US. Check on www.travelzoo.com or similar sites as well as the airlines' websites.

depends on your lifestyle. Since the Euro is up on the US Dollar (assuming you are exchanging US dollars), you should probably have about $2,500 USD spending money on hand for general expenses. That's not including hotel and / or airfair obviously.

The costs of visiting Paris are very similar to those visiting New York, except for travel to get there from wherever you are.

Big cities are expensive, from hotels to food. ($15 for a chef salad! And not in an expecially nice restaurant, either.) There are less expensive choices, and bargains, but you have to know how and where to find them.

Remember to include in your budget whatever activities you plan, from art museums to concerts, plus the occasional taxi or water transportation on the Seine.

Determine what you'd need for New York through websites and asking people who've vacationed there, then add air travel expenses, and you should be in the ballpark.

Be aware that you'll be doing a LOT of walking--pack the right shoes, okay?

here is the cheap hotel booking @site paris35.com (in english). choose one for 40 euros a night per person.
then it`s up to you to make it expensive or not, you can find restaurant outside tourist hubs everywhere or buy food in a delicatessen "traiteur-charcutier", a baguette and enjoy a pic-nic in a garden.
Paris is to be watched, it`s amazingly beautiful everywhere, metro is dead easy to use...just walk and enjoy, the real city center is not so big.

Allocate about $5,000 including flights. This is a middle of the road estimate. This is what it cost for my wife and I when we stayed for 5 days in July 2006.

We stayed in a great middle of the road hotel near the Eiffel Tower: Hotel Londres Eiffel. Not over the top fancy, but clean, friendly, and reasonably priced. Great location. The hotel had air conditioning and an elevator. Look it up on TripAdvisor.com.

Its an expensive city, but so worth it!!! You will want to eat out a lot, you want to see museums, and you'll want to go to all the great touristy sites. We did not rent a car. We used taxis, subway, and bus. We took the bus a lot. Londres Eiffel was next to a bus stop. We went to the top of th Eiffel Tower, visited all the key sites, and even went to Versaille. This includes souveniers, and a museum pass. We even went to the famous Jaquesmart Andre Museum.

I can't wait to go again.

Paris Traveler
My wife and I went last May for 10 days in Paris and, without airfare, it was right at $7,000. We did EVERYTHING and ate at great restaurants and did all the tourist things, including a diner/show at Moulin Rouge, dinner cruise on the Seine, dinner in the Eiffle Tower and took day trips to London, Versailles and a Normandy bus trip. Our hotel was 195 euros per night so that should give you a guage on costs. You should be able to do a nice 7 days for $5,000 or less depending on how cheap you want to be. But if you go to enjoy Paris you should save enough to do the Paris things and enjoy the food and attractions. If you include flights at $1,000 ea. it should be a $7,000 trip or perhaps a bit less.

Hope that helps. You can view our trip and photos on Yahoo Travel, Trip Planner, Paris Anniversary Trip by Paris Traveler.

Bon Voyage and bonne chance! Hope you have a great time. Paris is awesome!
