How much sightseeing can you jam into 3 days in Paris ? |
Hi, everyone ! We are going to Paris for a short romantic holiday. We've never been there and we want to see all the big attractions. We'll have tuesday afternoon, wednesday, thursday and friday until 3 o'clock. Any suggestions on how we could possibly cram all the important sights in three days? What do you recommend we visit? Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. |

Well in addition to what everyone else has said, here is a great website for information on Paris: http://www.allabout-paris.net. Hopefully this will give you an idea of what you would like to see while you're there. |

3 days will be fine. I would recommend you get a Batobus pass. It's a boat that you hoop on/off as you get to each of your attractions. Since all of the big ones are on the Seine, the batobus is perfect. We were able to see The Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre dame Cathedral, Champs Elysee/Arc de triomphe and Musee D'orsay all in 3 days using this form of transportation |

I went to Paris for 3 days (I'd been there before). I saw the Eiffel tower, the Louvre, Notre Dame, Montmartre, Champs-Élysées / Arc de Triomphe and the Picasso Museum.
If I were to plan my time wisely, if I was constrained for time like you, I'd do it this way.
Tuesday afternoon / evening (the Louvre is closed on Tuesdays) I'd start at the East end of the Champs-Élysées and stroll to the Arc de Triomphe shopping along the way. I'd keep my eye open for a nice place to eat dinner. At the Arc, not many people know this, but you can go up inside. It's 9 Euros. After dinner, when it starts to get dark, I'd head over to the Eiffel Tower for the light show and view from the Champ de Mars.
Wednesday I'd get up early get to the Louvre at 9:00AM. Take the Metro and get off at Palais-Royal-Musée du Louvre station. There is an underground entrance to the Louvre that isn't nearly as busy. Outside the entrance is a bookstore where you can purchase tickets. One option is Louvre - d'Orsay combo ticket which will save you a couple bucks. I would plan on spending most of the day at the Louvre which closes at 6:00PM. Notre Dame (free entrance) closes at 6:45 and is fairly close to the Louvre. Also there is Montmartre / Sacre Coeur Basilica. It closes at 11:00, but the dome and crypt (4 Euros) close at 6:00. Montmartre is hill about 2 miles north of the Louvre. It has a nice view of the city. The neighborhood around the Montmartre has a lot of topless joints (i.e. Moulin Rouge) and to me is a bit family unfriendly because of it. Also, there are a lot of street beggars who want to make you a bracelet out of string for money, but I think it's worth it to go there. If you purchase a daily metro pass, it will also work on a funicular which will take you up to the top of the hill (also bypassing the beggars).
On Thursday, once again I'd get up early and be at the Eifel Tower by 9:00 (9:30 in the winter). The lines can be very, very long. After the Eiffel Tower you'll have until 3:00 to tour the d'Orsay, Notre Dame, Montmartre, Champs-Élysées / Arc de Triomphe.

You can take one of those red buses around Paris which will take you to a tour visit from Eiffel to the most important sites of the city .It would be fun and interesting I assure you.If you have more time then you can go to the eiffel tower and see Paris from the top of the tower. You can go to the Champs-elysee street and see the Arc de triumph which is worth to see .Musee de louvre is beautiful but you need a lot of time. The beautiful church of Sacre coeur is another place you should think about for going.Have fun! |

You'll only be able to give the museums a quick glance but you can certainly see many of the big tourist sights with good planning.
I can write you a detailed itinerary if you contact me by e-mail and give me a regular e-mail adress to send it to and some information about where you will be staying (so I can give you proper directions) and an idea of your general interests so I can know what to skip over and what to focus on.
(I need a real email address because the Y!answers mail system doesn't allow big messages to be sent)

If there is a will, there's a way!
I was in Paris for 3 days and a half in May 2006 and I saw a lot of wonderful places, following the map (you get such touristical maps at every hostel, hotel, metro station....)
First thing: I bought CARTE ORANGE, approx. 18 EURO - for 3 days (good for bus, metro and RER)
First day (I arrived at noon in Paris) - around the hostel: I saw the opera - Place de la Bastille, Hotel de Ville, Notre-Dame, Cartier Latin - a very romantic place, with many cafes and small restaurants, Jardin de Luxembourg - superb place with beautiful trees and fountains and lake...!).
Second day:
Gare de Lyon - Jardin des Plantes -
le Metro ...-
Arc de Triomphe - Champs Elysees - Place de la Concorde - Jardin de Tuilleries - le Louvre - again Jardin de Luxembourg (my favourite park in Paris)
Day 3:
Pont Alexandre III-eme (with wonderful statues) - Hotel des Invalides - Domes des Invalides - Tour Eiffel
Day 4:
Sacre Coeur - Montmartre -
le bus + le trolleybus -
Tour Eiffel - Batobus (a boat on the river La Seine) - some shopping...
***
My advice: in three days, if you enter in museums...you will lose the show of the street. Le Louvre itself can be visited 3 days!
but this is my option - of course you can visit what you like!
If you ask me: Cartier Latin, Montmartre, the gardens: Jardin de Luxembourg, des Tuilleries, Jardin de Plantes, Batobus....are more romantic options than a museum!
If you want to visit the Tour Eiffel, I suggest to do that at the end of your stay in Paris - like this, you can recognize different places from above! :)
Don't miss the Tour Eiffel at night - Paris is "the city of lights" and you will love it I am sure!
I wish you a splendid holiday and wonderful weather!
