How old is the city of paris?

That depends on how you define things.

The earliest human presence in the Paris area dates back 700,000 years but the earliest known evidence of continuous human occupation dates to 5000 BC in the late Stone Age.

From the Bronze age, roughly 1800 BC, Paris was the hub of a complex network of trackways which suggests a more developed economy in the area.

By the time of the Iron age in Europe or around 750 BC, the Celts had migrated to the area and it appears that they built one of their characteristic oppida (a round fortress) on one of the islands that later would be joined to form the modern Ile de la Cite.

By the time Caesar began his conquest of Gallia in 58 BC there clearly was something like a city at least to the extent that he notes the presence of a Celtic oppida.

With the Roman conquest what is clearly a city, Lutetia, emerged complete with proper Roman roads, baths, a forum, arena and various temples.

By the fourth century, the Roman city of Lutetia was being called the City of the Parisii after the name of the principle Celtic tribe which inhabited it and whose Celtic leadership had often acquired Roman citizenship. It was a short step to abandoning the Roman name and simply calling the place Paris.

So one can set various dates for the city of Paris depending on which definition of a city you use or what you choose to consider a founding moment.

ok
The capital of France, Paris is located in the north-central part of the country. It is situated on both sides of the Seine river, and is a 2,000 year old city founded by a Gallic tribe known as the Parisii. Conquered by Romans and then the Gaul, it was eventually established as the capital of France in 987.
take care
