How to get around Paris without the Metro?

Hi, I am going to the Rugby World Cup final on saturday but now apparently the French metro drivers have decided to strike... I will be driving from Calais but i've herd Paris is highly congested with cars and as there is no trains it will be even more so sataurday so i would rather not drive. What is the next best alternative to getting around Paris as I plan to do some sight seeing before the match also?

The strike is a one-day strike today. On Saturday transport will be running normally. Besides the metro, you can walk around in the centre, and you can also use the almost-free bike hire scheme (there are stands every 300m where you can pick up a bike, and just drop it back at a stand near where you want to go. The first 30 minutes are free, so if your journey is less than 30 minutes, then you don't pay. There is a small registration fee).

You know what... I'd walk, you'd be surprised how close the stations are to each other! It's pretty similar to London, you don't have to walk far to be on top of another landmark. Good luck on ya trip!

Walk.
Paris is very compact . About 2Km square covers the main touristy bits.

rent a motorcycle. i doubt the metro will strike, but if it does that does happen, a moped will be best as you can nip around cars and through traffic!

The strike is for thrusday, you are asking about saturday. I am sure you won't have any problem since the stadium is north of Paris and Calais is also north...You will have to exit highway A1 before getting to Paris. Use the metro if you don't use your car since there will be 2 out of 3 running.

Have a look at this web site for getting around Paris on a bike.

One word... walk

We used the boats, they are like the Bateaux ones but cheaper. You can get on and off when you like. We went from Notre Dam to Eiffel tower on all day ticket and it was more enjoyable than metro.

get yourself a nice pair of walking shoes and hoof it around the city! know where you want to go ahead of time so you can pick the shortest routes...

if you are too lazy, rent a bike.

The strike is only on 18th. So for the final all trains will run. Don't worry. So you can come until paris, park you car, and take the "RER D" until Stade de France.

Enjoy the game...!!!
