List of tickets is on http://www.transport-idf.com/frontal?controller=TitresTransport&langue=en
You can buy them in machines or cash desks at all subway stations.

Transport zones are available on a popup plan in http://www.ratp.info/orienter/plans.php# (click on "Plan des zones tarifaires". As you can see, downtown is in Zone 1, La Defense in 3, Saint-Germain and Versailles in 4, CDG airport in 5 and Disneyland (Marne la Valee) in 6 - so you need to choose the proper ticket according to your plans.

Enjoy Paris!

possibly
It's easy to travel by metro in Paris and not so expensive!
(as a Parisian would say) lol
Compared to London Underground which is hellish and cost a fortune !

The metro is the easiest thing to use in the world.

Buy a carnet (ten tickets). One ticket is good per station as long as you don't leave the metro station. You change trains as many times as you need.

To get around Paris you'll not leave zone 1. If you want to go outside of Paris, you'll have to buy additional tickets.

The BEST map that I've found is Streetwise Paris or Artwise paris. They each have an awesome metro map and fold up nicely. You can buy them at Barnes and Noble or Borders.

One ticket will take you anywhere in zone 1 (i.e. downtown Paris), for as long as you don't get out of the subway system. You could spend the whole day with 1 ticket.

If you'll be there for a couple of days, buy a 3- or 5-day pass ("Carte Orange"), which will give you unlimited rides. You can buy a carte orange for any # of zones, with zone1 only being the cheapest of course. The subway goes everywhere in Paris and is very convenient, so that will save you a lot of walking and time.

A single ticket will cost you 1.40 Euros. You can buy a "carnet" of 10 tickets for 10.90 euros which brings the single ticket cost to 1.09 euros.

There are technically 7 zones but almost every tourist sight is found in zone 1.

You can purchase a one day pass good for zones 1-3 for 8.35 euros.

Individual tickets, carnets and passes can all be purchased at any ticket booth and at machines in mnay stations.
