France is one of may favorite places. And I got the chance to stay in the countryside and in the cities. In Paris many people speak English but don't assume. We had an issue with a waiter that really didn't want to serve us even though we tried our hardest to speak French. Other than that everyone was great. Many people politely corrected my French if I was having trouble, and we didn't have any other issues. I only stayed in Paris for 3 days, I wish I was there longer but Paris is one of my favorite cities, there is so much to do and see. We traveled to the south of France and went to Nice and Monaco which I highly recommend if you want to relax at a beach, the people down there were fairly nice too. I stayed in Dijon for 4 weeks and were weren't to far from Strasbourg, if you want a little German flavor without going to Germany Strasbourg was nice and small and you can see the whole city in the same day. But have fun, you're going to love it!

I lived in France for several years,it is very expensive, more expensive than UK,Ireland or the US.
Through my experience people are arrogant, don't speak english and dislike foreigners.
