"Où puis- je acheter une crêche de Noêl ? Une belle crêche."
If you are going to Paris now, the majority of Christmas markets will be over as most end on Christmas Eve, which is today, and only a few last till the end of December.
However, you will want to visit the medieval cathedral of Notre-Dame. Not only is there a beautiful nativity scene to be seen there until the end of January but there is a cathedral shop inside the church that sells a variety of nativities that range from traditional to modern depending on your taste. The provencal crib scenes include what is described as "santons" which are small effigies of people that do not appear in the traditional cribs of other nations and can represent a poacher, a fisherman, a mayor, a goose girl etc...The classic sets comprise Mary (la vierge), Joseph (Saint Joseph) , Baby Jesus (le divin enfant), the three kings (les trois rois), one or two shepherds (les bergers) and at least one angel (un ange), but one can buy additional characters such as the donkey, the ox, sheep, camel, elephant, the kings' retinue and so forth.
You can also buy these cribs in some of the large department stores, and , if you are going soon, you might even find some reduced in the January sales, which would be good as the really classy ones are expensive.
Happy Christmas to you and yours! |
