I'd like to live in France - what job to get.....?

I'm from the UK and would like to live in France for about 6 months at least to hopefully become fluent in the language (I cannot spek much French now). What job can I get and how can I go about getting it? I'm doing a TEFL course but am looking for alternatives...

I understand there is a huge market for the manufacturing and distribution of white flags, you might want to pursue a career in that industry.

(I'm so ashamed of this answer)

The absolutely best way is to work in a bar. It's the most relaxed way - the working culture in France tends to be a little formal and people don't mix business with pleasure. I know a few people who have had a real 'shock' on that account. There is a guy where I live in france from Australia, who works in a bar and it only took him 6 months to feel totally relaxed in the language. Conversely there is another guy I know who taught and his French didn't improve much and he felt isolated. Only small anecdotal evidence , I know... keep asking.

TEFL is probably your best bet, but you would need to stay in France a little longer to pick up the language as you wouldn't use it as part of your job. TEFL teachers are only required to be english speaking but I'm sure you already know that.

On the other hand, if you got a job, say at a restaurant, you would be expected to be fluent straight away. All that pressure would speed up the learning process.

I would recommend a job in a video store, so you could read from paper work and movie cover blurbs and develop your skill that way.

I'm learning French with the language options on my dvd's, I put on the french dialogue and subtitles and try to read the subtitles out loud.

if you are unable to speak french, you will need to work in a job where you can improve your skills. I know that in disneyland if you have basic french, you can work there. I suppose waitressing, working in a shop.
