Yikes! |
I'm a little nervous to visit Paris by myself in October.? |
I will be in Paris for one day October 15-16. I am American and will be alone. I don't speak French, only a few phrases. I am nervous about finding my way around the city and finding the "hot spots". I am a 33year old gay man. Any suggestions? Serious replies only please. |

I went to Paris and did not have a problem finding my way around and I dont speak any French ... Most French speak English, though they dont like to ... As for the "hot spots", besides a really huge gay sauna, there really wasnt any. The do have alot of dance clubs, but I much prefered the night life in London ...
Get yourself a Sparticus Guide that has the street addresses and then take a taxi to the venues. The gay district is in the Marais which is very near the Louve and Notre Dame Cathedral by taxi or hop on/hop off bus. The hop on/off busses are the cheapest means to get around all of Paris, use these to get as close to the city area you want to go to before taking any taxis to keep your costs down if on a budget. I dont recommend the Metro, it can be very confusing.
Want any more advise, email me at londonhawk2004@yahoo.com ... I am 34, so think our taste in venues might be pretty much the same. |

Only a day in Paris? You'll be fine, even speaking only English, but you'll regret to leave Paris after a day flying like an hour. |

My friend went camping in Paris last year with no equipment, he went round to the Eifffil tower, with hands on hips and said, oh isn't he drop dead georgious, mammy keeps him lovely.
Enjoy Gay Paris, there's nothing to be nervous about.
Au revoir, Fruitcake. |

Jeez, it's Paris, not Kazakstan. Just go and have a good time.
Oh, and wear a maple leaf. You'll be far better received. |

Don't be nervous! Paris is a beautiful city and relatively safe. The metro system is pretty easy to figure out. You can familiarize yourself with the metro system by going to www.paris.org. There is a great publication called pariscope (www.pariscope.fr) that you can pick up at any kiosque in Paris. I would suggest becoming good friends with the concierge at the hotel, he/she will more than likely speak english and help you with any excursions. 2 days is not a lot of time so you should figure out what you want to do i.e. sightseeing, just walking round, etc.
In my experience Paris is a relatively safe city although there are areas that are safer than others. I don't feel that you being gay is going to be an issue. There are quit a few gay night clubs (check pariscope and don't be afraid to ask the concierge) if that is something you would like to do.
I do suggest taking some time and sit in a cafe, get a cup of coffee, a croque monsiuer and take in the culture that is around you. I love to people watch and this was one of my favorite things do when I lived there. |

went to paris w/my husband last october.granted, there were 2 people, not one,but trust me,u'll be fine.even the few french phrases will help, the people there are helpful when u @ least try.ur hotel manager will help u find cool local clubs and places of interest.paris has a long history of being gay-friendly,no hate crimes bcause of this,or anything like that.if any trouble at all,the american embassy is right off the champs elysee, near hotel opera richepanse (yeah, thats really the name !!!) any cab driver would know where that is.there are gr8 boat tours and dinner cruise things that go down the seine,u get the tours at the boat dock near champs elysee.just go and have fun, they arent as mean to americans as legend holds.good luck.go to the champs elysee, most of the "must see" stuff is centered from there.ps-oh,and DONT wear a maple leaf-thats a total cop-out.just b urself ! besides, what if someone asks questions about canada, and u have no idea?trust me,no one was mean 2 me !!!!!! |
