I'm from the US and I need to take 2 electronic appliances with me to France..? |
Both appliances (a hairdryer and a lithium-ion battery recharger state that they run on variable volts and hertz (110-240V, 50/60 Hz). I think that all I need to buy is a simple plug adapter, not a power converter since they seem to be made for pretty much everywhere in the world. The only question I have is the wattage on the hairdryer. It runs on 1875 watts - does that matter? Since it's variable volts and hertz can I still just buy a cheap plug adapter to make it work. The power converters at Radio Shack for hairdryers state that it can only be used with things up to 1600 watts. Could someone please help me with this - I need to understand this, so let's not even consider buying a new hairdryer in Europe an option :) |

Yes. All you need is a plug adapter, not a transformer (or converter as you call it). |

I agree that you only need the adapter, but I blew out a hair drier in Dubai. So don't listen to me. Bring your appliances into Radio Shack. Show them, and then you'll have peace of mind. You don't want to take time from your vacation searching for an appliance store for a new hair drier. |

We often have people coming from the US to France for training. They normally bring one of these multiple country adaptors with them, with no exploding hairdryers so far :-) |
