Avignon is a beautiful city, you can walk around in the old town, enjoy a farmer market, there's the palace of course and museums, old churches, the bridge...
Here is the official tourist site for Avignon in English :

Go on to the Lonely Planet Site they write books on all countries in the world with all info you need they also have a chat site for people who have visited the area or you can buy their books at any good book shop in travel section |

I went to Avignon on a school trip wayyyy back in 1966 and don't really remember any special sites there other than the Pont D'Avignon (which is actually only half a bridge!) and the Pope's Palace. However, it is a good base to get around to see other places - Pont du Gard is a spectacular Roman aquaduct (I can remember walking along the top of that, though don't know if that's allowed any more), Nimes, Orange and the Camargue region are all well worth a visit, especially if you are interested in Roman architecture.
If I were you, I'd buy a guide to the region and see what there is that will most interest you.
Enjoy your trip. |

Avignon is ideally placed to visit other places. The Camargue is a huge wildlife and bird sanctuary. (Take plenty of insect repellent!) Montpellier and Nimes are two historic places close to Avignon and are worth visiting. Plenty of info on Avignon itself on French Tourism site below

Don't go to Marseilles!! |
