It's a romantic trip and also my b-day gift! We'll be staying at the Hotel Ferrandi. It will be from 1/18-1/24. Thanks! |

I've never stayed at the Ferrandi but assuming its the one at 92 rue du Cherche Midi you've picked a nice location.
I looked at their website and notice that breakfast isn't included in the price so my first advice is don't pay 10 euros for breakfast at the hotel. Just pick the nearest cafe and have breakfast as the French do, which is to say, some fresh bread and a big cup of cafe au lait or a hot chocolate. It costs less and its more authentic.
There are a lot of excellant restaurants in the area.
La Marlotte at 55 rue du Cherche Midi is elegantly romantic and quietly discrete with candles, provincial paintings and lots of vases of fresh flowers. The cuisine is traditional French and the patrons tend to be stylishly dressed. Reservations are a must. (phone:01 45 48 86 79) You can book online. Check out their website: http://www.lamarlotte.com/
Le Coupe Chou at 9 rue de Lanneau (website:http://www.lecoupechou.com/) is another very romantic place and just a few minutes walk east of your hotel.
For evening entertainment try Aux Trois Mailletz at 56 rue Galand. Its very friendly, relatively untouristy. The ground floor has a piano player accompanying some very fine singers. Patrons often join in and the many musicians who like to hang out there will take a turn or sit in. In the basement there is a "Grand Spectacle" featuring an atmosphere and ambiance that is straight out of the 1950's New York nightclub scene. (think Stork Club).
Another choice is Le Petit Journal at 71 boulevard Saint-Michel. (website:http://perso.orange.fr/claude.philips/). They have fine traditional jazz and are quite a friendly place. (don't go for dinner however...their food is rather ordinary).
Have fun! |

The only thing i can offer is that it will be fairly cold and probably snowing. Have a fantastic time there. Paris is beautiful, if you can ignore the smells in some of the more iffy areas!
Oh and you have to climb the Arch Du Triomphe at night, so you can see the lights of the city. You get an amazing view of the Eiffel tower from up there and it's one of the best spots to take photos of it. |

Learn at least a little French, it will be very difficult to get around without it. A few things I've learned, jambon (which is ham) is generally in salads and random dishes you'll see on menus, well its more of the umm... raw variety, ha so I wouldn't go there. Also, when asking for directions, ask at least 2 people. People don't like saying they don't know so they will just throw stuff out there and get you lost hah. Not all of the time, but just to be safe, I would ask a few people. You don't need to tip either, its included. Do hit up a bakery every morning for something, breads are sooo much better there. When on the metro, keep your ticket even after you're on it, sometimes they check. Best trip ever for a couple, have fun. |

Yes, Paris is truly romantic. Love the museums. The Eiffel Tower too (who cares if it's touristy? It is still romantic). Don't miss out the many illuminations at night. It's absolutely magical. Here's a place where you can find loads of info & reviews for your trip such as things to do, restaurants, shopping etc. :

Six days will be very good for you to see Paris :
- day 1 : have a tour with the Open Tour double-decked bus, operated by the RATP company : you'll have a quick view of Paris. You may pop up whenever you feel like such as Champs-Elysées, Arc-de triomphe,
- day 2 and 3 : Visit the famous sights : Eiffel Tower, Louvre (Mona Lisa, ..). Don't forget Montmartre and its painter market (Place du Tertre), Latin Quarter, St-Germain
- day 4 : boat along the romantic Canal St-martin,
- day 5 : Orsay Museum (impressionnist painters) and Versailles
- day 6 : Shopping
Plenty of advices at http://paris.c-lafrance.com/ on museums, monuments, hotels, restaurants, night-clubs, events, ...
Have a nice b-day gift in Paris |
