You may buy cigarettes in France at age 16.

Since you are apparently traveling to France from some other country you will require a passport in any case. Therefore you will have ID so no worries.

NB: I notice the anti-smoking Nazis are giving thumbs down to a CORRECT answer because they feel that the lack of some diatribe about smoking is somehow morally wrong.

THIS ISN'T A CHAT ROOM.

This is a place to answer questions not express your opinions.

Its none of your business if this person smokes. You opinion is irrelevant.

i dont think you should be smoking. unless you want lung cancer and possibly kill yourself. sorry but smoking is not very smart.

Marymiss
Nope. In France (and much of europe) they don't ID you for buying booze and smoke. They sometimes do that if you want to get into a club.

Questions is: Why do you want to smoke at 16? IS life that bad already?

Ash-a-licious
why are you gonna burn your lungs and ask for cancer in the future???? have you not seen the Truth commercials, or heard that smoking causes cancer??? besides no one like someone who stinks of smoke...its a MAJOR turnoff!!

Why would you want to buy cigarrets? They damage your lungs, give you a chance of having sicknesses like cancer, causes you to have bad breath, and dirty teeth, and many more. Haven't you learned anything in school at all?

Vince L
you dont need to buy cigarettes

Francoise
Yes, the law here requires you to present you ID if you are sixteen and buying cigarettes. But nobody ever asked. Don't worry. I've never seen any tabac owners or selling persons asking ID from a young person. They take it more seriously if it's alcohol you are buying.

Don't start smoking. It's a tough habit to break and nothing good can come out of it-- lung cancer, heart attack, stroke, emphysema, cervical cancer (yeah, the carcinogens in cigs gets into your blood stream and increases the risk of cervical cancer), macular degeneration, horrible looking skin, smelly clothes and hair, etc. The problem isn't dying. The problem is getting really sick, suffering for years and then dying. Smoking will not make you look older. You'll end up looking like a 16 y.o. smoking cigs. Sadly, many French women do not age well-- due to cigarette smoking and alcohol.

Addendum: Calling concerned ppl Nazis is an abuse of the word Nazi. A real Nazi would say yeah, go and smoke, hehe. So, we cannot express concerns or opinions? Who can? Just the lawyers? Has it occurred to you that a 16 y.o. getting hooked on tobacco in Europe is going to have a hard time in the US? Smoking is an individual choice-- for adults, not kids. Perhaps we hit a nerve (some ppl call it transference); perhaps smokers feel uncomfortable when they hear about the real risks of smoking.

you won't be able to buy them if your 16. don't smoke anyways. thats SO 90's

John
No, I've never heard of anyone being IDed to buy cigarettes =] Yes, Rillifane is completely correct in saying that this is no one else's business.

You may legally smoke from the age of sixteen here.

Hope this helps !
