Hi i'm living in Paris so i'll try to give you some advice (although tourists usually better know the city than we french people do!)...

If you want to shop, you will find nice shops (and luxury ones) on the Champs-Elysées avenue, but it's very crowded. For luxury products try the George V avenue. Otherwise for more usual purchases you can walk along rue de Rivoli between the City Hall ("Hotel de Ville") and the Louvre, or along the rue du Commerce.

A nice shopping district is around the Opera (metro stops: Opera or Auber) and along boulevard Haussmann (the so-called "great boulevards").
You will find some interesting shops on the boulevard St-Michel (mostly books, CDs...) and boulevard St-Germain (mixed shopping).

For sightseeing, i'm not going to advice you the usual stuff that everybody knows. A very nice district is located around the Pantheon in a triangle made by the stations "Port-Royal", "Gare d'Austerlitz" and "Cluny la Sorbonne". On a sunny day i really advice you to visit the Great Mosque ("Mosquée" in french) that has a very nice patio and tea-room, really really nice (metro station "Place Monge").
If you fancy some "gloomy" stuff, visit the Pere-Lachaise cemetery, it's impressive and home to tthe graves of famous people (including Jim Morrison).
Instead of going to the top of the Eiffel tower, try the Montparnasse tower: nicer view and... you can see the Eiffel tower!
If there's a ray of sun... visit the Sainte-Chapelle (metro stop "Cité"), the stained glass windows are very impressive!

Very interesting and quite gloomy: visit the Catacombs (metro stop: Denfert Rochereau) and walk underneath Paris in dark caves among human bones and skulls.

If you're coming here before the 20th of August, try to walk along "Paris Plage" ("Paris beach") on the north bank of the River from Sully bridge to the "Pont des Arts"

To go out for drinks try the very nice "Cour Saint-Emilion" area...

The parisians can be rude sometimes, but as people in any other big city... don't judge the french from the Parisians please! Having said this, you will also find people you are really willing to help.

I wish you a very nice stay here!

the sacre couer is a nice place to eat lunch. a bit boring inside but theres loads of shops around it even thought they are a bit tacky....theres loads of nice food stalls selling crepes. the louvre is cool if you like art. but just beware of the herds of japanese tourists! i went to paris in june with my school and i had a job trying to stick with my group in there!! also try and avoid the metro if you can...it's a perverts paradise!! i go to an all girls school and ooo me and my friends could tell you some interesting stories about the metro!! the eiffel tower is a must, it seems a bit of a typical thing to do when you go to paris but the view from the top is really nice and we had fun walking down the stairs!! also if you can try and take a boat ride on the river seine. it's really nice when the sun is going down. if you're travelling from outside paris make sure you leave plently of time for travelling. we were sat in the traffic for almost 2 hours and we were only 30 minutes at the most from the centre.
hope you enjoy your holiday!!

The best shops seem to be around Champs el elsyee.

Main tourist attractions are ok, but I thought it was a bit shady, beware of the metro at night !

Make sure to visit the great Jazz clubs of Paris!!!

Na its full of french people!

?
Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde are buried in the same cemetery in Paris. Jim's gravestone was replaced once due to vandalism. Don't forget the famous museum Le Lourev which has the Mona Lisa painting. Take a boat trip on the Seine river. I was disappointed on how filthy some of the streets in Paris are, but have fun!
