Try not to get angry with rude people. The service is slow, waiters are unkind, people are not helpful. OMG good luck. I lived there 5 years and I am so happy that i am not living there anymore. I speak very well French, too so that's not because they don't know English or whatever they are just like this.

I hate Paris. Too cliché!

When I went to Paris, I enjoyed the Musee D'Orsay a lot more than the Louvre. At the Louvre, there are a hundred people crowded around the not-as-big-as-we-thought Mona Lisa, whereas at Musee D'Orsay, there are some great impressionist works and you can actually see them without peeking over people's heads.

it depends on how long you'll stay in Paris:
Eiffel tower
Montmartre with " le Sacré Coeur"
Le Louvre
les catacombes
les Champs Elysées
Le Père Lachaise cemetery
Notre-Dame
near Paris, le château de Versailles
there are lots of places that are worth the visit

There are many wonderful landmarks to see. But I will advise you of one thing, get a french phrase book. People will say that in France people are rude, but that isn't true. What is true is that many people there understand English but choose not to help rude tourists. I'd suggest if you're asking for directions or help, try and speak French, even if you're TERRIBLE, they'll see you're making an effort and will help. They will most likely pick up on your accent and switch to english. But you'll get by much better if you try French. As for places to go, I'd go see the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, The Louvre, and finally, The Eiffel Tower.

Have Fun!

The first thing I would do is take the "hop on hop off" tour of the city which has stops at all the major landmarks. It costs around 25 euros and is good for two days (if I'm not mistaken). You can pick it up from any point on the tour route. But if you don't want to do that, the Paris metro is fantastic and will get you to where you want...I recommend (as others have suggested) the area of Montmartre (cafes and artists - although it's not what it used to be) and Sacre Coeur (great views of the city), La Sainte Chapelle (absolutely stunning stained glass windows, located across from Notre Dame), of course the Eiffel Tower (if you can endure...I would take the stairs to the second platform...you waste too much time with the elevator), Galeries Lafayette (shopping centre), Musee de L'Orangerie (Impressionist art, Rodin statues), Louvre (although I think it's a little overrated - plus it's overcrowded), Musee d'Orsay (more impressionist art), Les Invalides (Tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte), Champs Elysees (which leads you to L'Arc de Triomphe - and just a little before you reach the arch, somewhere on the left, look for "Paul" bakery - great pastries at reasonable prices :)), the catacombes (those are fun), and well there is so much more...just get lost in the city...

not sure what you mean but if you mean what to do before then DEFINITLY rest and if you mean what to do there then check out these places:

-louvre
-eifel tower
-notre dame of paris(cause theres plenty of them)
-take a boat ride on the saine river at night
-also go to a french bakery

also im taking french class and i have been there so you might wanna bring a french to english dictionary. Hope you have fun and im kinda jealous of you i had a blast!

Definitly visit the Mussee d'Orsay! I went there a few years ago and I thought it was much better than the Louvre. As someone stated before, the Louvre is always over-crowded with tourists trying to catch a glimpse at the Mona Lisa. But in all seriousness, it's something you can see once and be done with. Definitly check out the Musee d'Orsay-- such a broad selection of artwork that is absoultely breathtaking!

Start near the Centre Pompidou and wander around the 1,2,3,4, and 5th arrondissements(sections), walk across the bridges over Ile de la Cite, then wander the streets parallel to and just south of the river in the Latin Quarter. If you like to go in to places, read a quik summary like Let's go or Lonely Planet Guides, and pick what you like. I usually like to just walk for hours, get lost, get coffee, pastries, crepes on the street, try restaurants and walk around all the old Roman ruins, churches, university buildings, and go through the parc Jardin de Luxembourg. It would take a few years to really get to know Paris, so read up on mueseums and monuments to see if they really interest you more than just exploring wild galleries, markets, and shops that are free. Take a lot of money if you drink a lot, or if money is tight buy great ready to eat salads and breads, fruit, etc. in supermarkets. If time is limited, don't sleep. It's one of the coolest cities I know, up there with NYC, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Madrid, London, and Lisbon.
If you don't stay right in the center, don' t rent a car, just take a bus or metro. It's safe and interesting people watching.
Be polite, it's important.
