I'm looking for a seaside beach town in either the Atlantic southwest or the Med. south of France that is.....

picturesque, elegant, historic, natural, but also youthful and fun. I'd like it to have a quaint village like atmoshphere right on the sea with breathtaking views, and of course, a great beach too. Can any of you recommend such a tranquil paradise in the cote d'argent or the cote d'azur? Thank-you!

First comes Cassis. Village near Marseille . Beautiful, picturesque, authentic....
Or look between Nice and Monaco like Villefranche sur Mer, Saint Jean Cap Ferrat and Eze sur mer, ...
Or if you like the Camargue area (Rhone river Delta), you should visit Les Saintes Maries de la Mer...

You can found some photos and info on the net...

try Antibes on the cote d azur http://www.a-taste-of-france.com/antibes-france.html

I love the south of France and recommend the area around Cogolin and Grimaud. Nearby you have a choice of going to St Tropez (5miles) or St Maxime (6 miles) and the beaches are to die for......enjoy.

It may not be SW exactly, but La Rochelle ticks most of your boxes. It's in a micro-climate that offers the second most days of sunshine, after the CĂ´te D'Azur. It has bundles of charm, a great lively atmosphere with cafes, music, arts, festivals & markets and hasn't been spolit by over commercialisation. It does have beaches nearby but is primarily an old port city.

on the atlantic side is Saint jean de luz. not far from Biarritz. its got everything. a street full of nice bars and restaurants lead you to a lovely beach. there is a fishing harbour. artists paint in the square. on wednesday evenings they have confetti battles which is really funny. its got scenery. the pyrenees is close. its got lovely litte villages nearby. if you're there 13th august you must see the Feria de dax which is awesome.music and dancing etc till dawn. great fun.dax is a few hours away so you would need to stay overnight
