oh my god the ignorance.
what, there's no blondes in france? or, rather, there's only blondes in the US? maybe you should work a bit more on what's underneath your hair. |

Oh dear.... try Googling Catherine Deneuve, Brigitte Bardot, Vanessa Paradis, Gerard Depardieu - have a good look at their photos... see, blonde hair!
You've made a false assumption - now what are the odds that 'French people hate Americans' is a false assumption too? |

The French have a reputation for being snotty, but it's really not that bad. They don't hate Americans, they just have a condescending attitude.
And don't change your hair color. There are plenty of blonde French ladies. Besides, they will pick you out as an American regarless of your hair style. Unless you have very international taste in clothes and makeup.
Oh, and don't try to speak French a lot, unless you speak PERFECT French. Nothing makes the French madder than badly spoken French! They would rather try to practice their English with you. |

It seems to me that you kind of turn things around.
Do you watch Fox News? Did you ever go to fuckfrance.com or any other such website?
No french journalist is as active against America as Bill O'Reilly is against France. I have not found french websites dedicated to America hate. There is no systematic and gratuitious American-bashing in French newspapers or TV.
Some Americans actively hate the French. Most French do not hate Americans.
Also, keep your hair blond! Many German, Dutch and Swedish tourists have blond hair, this is not what may get you identified as an american, or even as a tourist. |

Read Culture Shock France and you'll be fine. Every country has it's cultural differences and it's mainly americans that don't bother to find out how to treat the French (or the people of whatever country they're visiting) that cause misunderstanding. If you make sure to say "Bonjour monsieur/madam" when entering shops/restaurants you'll probably be fine. If you don't French culture identifies you as someone who thinks they're too good to talk to "commoners" and you will probably get a rude response. Also learn basic french, it's not that hard to learn how to handle yourself in restaurants etc. |

France is one of the country which attract a lot of tourist in the world, 'n Paris is the most visted city around the world, but don't forget Paris is one of the Biggest city,'n is an important trade place in Europe. Some buisnessmen are very rude cause tourist are often slowly.
But generally french poeple are very welcoming, plus inside the province. Go to the Brittany(Bretagne/Breizh) this region is the most beautiful region in France...
All the french speak english but with a death accent and it's possible they can't understand u, plus they enjoy when a foreigner try to speak french, if they laugh it's not to make a fool of u but just 'cause they think it so cute...
Have a good trip... |

No, you do not need to dye your hair. The most important thing is that you are respectful of the French people and French culture while you are there. Talk quietly. Ask people if they speak English before asking them for directions or something. Learn the basics in French, like please and thank you. You are more likely to run into people who do not like Americans in large cities, but even then, people aren't likely to be openly rude to you just because they suspect you are American. Just be gracious and courteous to everyone. If it bothers you that much, go buy a small canadian flag and pin it to your backpace and tell everyone you're from Canada. ;) |

I'm so sorry to read in you question and in some answer that french are rude or unpleasant.
I'm french, and I can tell you are welcome in France.
Don't go in crowded place (St-Tropez, Cannes during festival...), French can be nervous sometimes when there are a lot of people.
But I think it's like everywhere.
Just don't say that W.Bush is a great man...
You can keep your blonde hair, my wife is blonde.
Have a nice trip in France. |

We were there several months ago and stayed in Paris, one block from Notre Dame. We encountered one person who seemed to be unkind, but maybe she was having a bad day. Everyone else was just great. They seemed to apprciate my poor attempts to use my college French. We almost always were able to locate someone who spoke English that was happy to help us when we were lost. I vote you leave your hair alone and enjoy the journey! |

Hey French are not that terrible, relax, try to learn some basic words in French because most of them don't speak any English, but for the rest you don't need to do anything like dying your hair!!! Just enjoy..bonnes vacances |
