I am going to Cannes for summer and staying for a month, what are the places I should check out????

I used to live in Nice, just a short train ride away. Cannes is beautiful but small, pricey and upscale. The best part about it is that it is centrally located on the Cote D'Azur. The train is the best way to see the sights along the coast. Here's what I recommend:

Nice: Promenade des Anglais, Place Massena, the old city are all places I loved to visit. Go up to the fort on the hill by the harbor for a great view of the Med. Also, look at the bus routes and find the stop "Les Arenes"(I think it is on the #15 bus) and go have picnic lunch at a Roman ruin - right in the middle of a bustling neighborhood.

Villefranche-sur-mer: The Rothschilde Estate is a must see.. There are 7 gardens that you can stroll through, each in a different style.

Antibes: Another jet-set destination that is low key compared to Cannes, I would go to the Musee Picasso, it has numerous works by Picasso that he actually produced in the very building the museum is housed in.

Menton: Last stop before you get to Italy, this town is incredibly beautiful.

St. Paul de Vence: You need to catch a bus to this destination but it is worth it (only 20 minutes or so). It is a "village perchÃ©" from hundreds of years ago, it is a small walled city with ornate stone streets, little cafÃ©s and boutiques. The Fondation Maecht - a modern art museum - is a short walk from the town and is also worth the visit - especially to see the stain glass windows for a chapel designed by Marc Chagall.

Eze: Another "village perchÃ©" accessible by car or bus, this one is over 3,000 above the Mediterranean. It is amazing!!!

Monaco / Monte Carlo: This goes without saying. You can't come all this way and not visit one of the tiniest countries in the world.

Cannes is rather small............. you should be able to see and do it all in a couple of weeks............. If you'll be there for a month, then you get to see and do it all TWICE!!!!!!

Rent a car and get around the Riviera.

Each town has something unique to offer. Also, hop across the border into Italy for a day.

Definitely the short drive to Monaco. Or even better, grab a train.

Cannes is one of several stunning resorts along the Cote D'Azure, Southern France. Cannes itself offers the Fifth Avenue or Beverly Hills of shopping and people watching cafes. The main avenue, La Croisette (meaning 'the crossing' because you cross from the shopping/cafe side to the beach boardwalk.) There are many small private beach areas with dining areas for day and evening. Heading towards the port end of LaCroisette, you will find an enchanting carousel and a place to rent little remote boats. In the early evening artists come out and show their creations along the beach boardwalk. There's a public beach near the carousel as well. It's well worth wandering the side streets for special little shops which have "treasures" for you to take home.

Other places you should try to visit while staying in Cannes are:
1. Nice - lovely port town and wider beach than Cannes with water sports.
2. St. Tropez - Jet set capital about 1.5 hours away
3. Monaco & Monte Carlo- Unique, breath taking "Country". Visit the Palace and see the Monte Carlo casinos. Wander through the little streets near the Palace.
4. Eze - Must see this Medieval Town. Incredible! Lovely French fabric, housewares shop at the base of Exe (across the street.)

There are perfume factories in the area as well. Bring your camera with you wherever you go. Just breath taking!

Take the train to the first stop in Italy..Nice city..Of course stop in Monaco on the way..And go to Nice on the other side of Cannes
